Allen talks about his time in Milwaukee
Quote:
Allen was told that he finished third in recent online balloting to determine the Bucks' top 20 players over 40 seasons, behind only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Oscar Robertson. Sidney Moncrief finished fourth in the voting and current Bucks star Michael Redd was fifth.
"That's amazing," Allen said. "That's overwhelming to think people thought that much of me, because Kareem and Oscar were two of the best all-time arguably in the NBA.
"My time here was well-spent. We won; I think that has a lot to do with it. People enjoyed the basketball in the mid- to late '90s."
It didn't end well for Allen in Milwaukee, however, even though at one point he said he would like to spend his entire career with the Bucks. Former Bucks coach George Karl pushed for the deal that sent Allen to Seattle at the trade deadline in 2003, in exchange for Gary Payton and Desmond Mason.
Payton played only 28 regular-season games and one playoff series for the Bucks before moving on as a free agent, while Allen was an all-star in Seattle before joining the Celtics in a draft-day trade last summer.
"Being traded to Seattle, I always say it was unfortunate," Allen said. "I think that was George Karl, a battle between he and I. I had no animosity; I was happy with what was going on. It just seemed like for some reason, he was unhappy with everything I did at that moment.
"There was no reason to be, but that's how it got. I could go out and do my job, and he just wanted to find fault in everything I did, how I dressed, what I did off the court.
"He questioned my toughness. He questioned a lot of things about me. It was always as though he wanted somebody else on his team that he didn't have, instead of accepting it and being happy with what you have, that we won that way."

Ah, reminds me of why I really don't like George Karl.
