Yi's return up in the air.
Quote:
Five games and counting.
That’s the current tally for Bucks rookie Yi Jianlian regarding the number of games he has missed with what the team is calling a sprained right wrist. Actually, Yi has missed the last six games since he also missed one game with a sprained left ankle.
There has been a growing speculation that Yi might be done for the season due to the mysterious wrist injury, but coach Larry Krystkowiak has expressed confidence that Yi will return at some point.
Asked why he felt that way, Krystkowiak said, “Just the fact that he’s getting better. He talks about how it’s feeling better. We want him to take a little bit more time off. With only two games this week, we’ll see if we can get some practice time. I think it’s important for him to make a little push here at the end of the season.”
After a game against Indiana on March 2, Yi admitted to being worn out after playing all summer with the Chinese national team and then experiencing the rigors of the National Basketball Association season with the Bucks.
Yi sat out the game after that, against Seattle, because of the ankle injury that he suffered against the Pacers. But he has now missed the last five games because of the wrist injury, leading some to wonder if he was being shut down so he would be fresh to play this summer with the Chinese team.
Eyebrows were raised further last week when the Bucks changed Yi’s status on the injury report from “day-to-day” to “out”. Krystkowiak was questioned rather extensively about that before Saturday night’s game against Boston.
“I don’t know what the difference is,” said Krystkowiak who is not involved in determining how players are listed on the injury report. “To me, it’s day-to-day. I don’t know the different categories, how it’s determined.”
