Kohl claims not to be a meddler
But he's not very convincing with it:
Quote:
Kohl insisted he was not "a meddler" and had a right to become involved in major decisions, including the hiring and firing of head coaches and certain trades. He confirmed that he did not approve a February trade which would have sent Bobby Simmons, Dan Gadzuric and Charlie Bell to the New York Knicks in return for Zach Randolph and Fred Jones.
At one point, Kohl compared himself to another owner of an NBA franchise, Mark Cuban of the Dallas Mavericks.
"You know, quote, meddling owner. Mark Cuban," Kohl said. "I'm not Mark Cuban. I honestly believe I'm not a meddling type of a manager, whether it be in basketball or whether it was in the food stores or department stores or as a senator.
"Most everybody who has worked me over the years has said - while there were things about me they don't like - it wouldn't be they didn't have the latitude to do their jobs."
Kohl took a case-by-case approach to the three Bucks coaches hired since July 2003, when Harris was named the team's general manager. Terry Porter came first and coached two seasons, followed by Terry Stotts for nearly two seasons and current coach Larry Krystkowiak.
"Terry Porter was a pick of the general manager, as he should have been," Kohl said. "Terry Porter's exodus was the general manager's decision, as it should have been. Regardless of whether I was more on board or less on board, I was deferential when it came to that one.
"Terry Stotts, a little bit more cloudy. You recall that we embarked on a lengthy search for a coach. The first one was Flip Saunders, that went on for a long, long time. I was a part of that. Then we went after Doug Collins, and that took quite a while. And then we were into July and we needed a coach. At that point I did suggest, if not urge, that we should hire Terry Stotts. And Larry Harris did that.

The Stotts thing kills me. The rumor I've heard was that Stotts called Herb directly and asked to be considered for the job, and bypassed Harris.
