Bogut wants extension
Quote:
Andrew Bogut isn't restless to find a new home in Los Angeles or New York.
The Milwaukee Bucks' 7-foot center feels right at home with the franchise that drafted him with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2005 draft, despite the intense disappointment of the current season.
Bogut has made steady progress in his third pro season and will have an option to sign a multiyear deal this summer with the Bucks. And preliminary indications are that the Bucks intend to make a strong push to get Bogut signed to a long-term contract.
"I'd love to return," Bogut said in a recent interview. "I wouldn't have bought a house if I didn't see a long-term future. Obviously, with all the things going on last year and the year before, I wasn't settled off the floor. Now it's the other way around.
"I'm settled off the floor; I'm settled on the court. We don't know the direction the franchise is heading. It's a proud franchise, so we'd like to get it back to be a winning franchise and have people be proud of wearing a Bucks jersey or a Bucks hat or whatever."
Complicating the picture is the absence of a general manager, after Larry Harris was fired last week. And timing is important, because of Bogut's involvement in international play with the Australian Olympic team this summer.
Bogut said his agent, David Bauman, was insisting that a longer contract be signed before the center can go to camp with the Australian team, because of the injury risk involved. If Bogut played with his national team and was injured, he could jeopardize future earnings.
He is scheduled to make $6.3 million next season in the final year of his rookie-scale contract.
"From what I hear, it's positive so far, and we'll see what happens," Bogut said of the Bucks' interest. "They've got to get it done quickly, too. I've got national team stuff. If it drags on for too long, I probably won't sign it. I need to get back with my national team, and I can't work out until I sign that option."

Re: Bogut wants extension
Bogut is the guy Milwaukee needs to build around (not necessarily the #1 scorer or anything, but he's definately a core guy). If he wants an extension, give it to him. He's everything right with that organisation imo.

Re: Bogut wants extension
The Bucks shouldn't build around him, because he isn't a great scorer or defender. If you don't build around a true superstar you probably won't get a great team. Bogut isn't the guy to build around, but he's great as the #2 guy. If the pick is high enough, they should just build around the BPA.

Re: Bogut wants extension
Yea I tried to explain that in the bracket (if you were talking to me), but yea, they shouldn't build around him like a superstar. What I meant is they should extend him and then build on from there and in that direction (he's a center piece of their future core).
