Knee injury will keep Yi out for rest of season
Quote:
The Bucks announced before their game Friday night against the Indiana Pacers at the Bradley Center that Yi had suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament in the knee during the game Wednesday night in Washington. Yi left in the second quarter of that game and did not return.
Yi will need two or three weeks of rest and treatments before he will be able to return to basketball-related activities and begin preparing for his role on the Chinese national team for the Olympics this summer.
"We didn't have to talk about a whole lot," Krystkowiak said. "Just the eye contact and the disappointment of not being able to finish the season . . . beyond that there's not much you an say but to encourage."
The Bucks have seven games left and Krystkowiak had talked about playing Yi more down the stretch with the hope that he could finish the season on a positive note. Yi missed eight other games earlier this season with three other injuries.
"We were planning on playing him significant minutes," Krystkowiak said. "It's a setback to him. It's not the first. There will be a lot of ups and downs. But he'll be able to recover, I'm sure, and get ready for the Summer Olympics."
