Hammond adds to staff
Quote:
General manager John Hammond started to reshape the Milwaukee Bucks' front office Friday by naming Jeff Weltman as his assistant general manager.
The 43-year-old Weltman worked with Hammond during the past season in Detroit, where Weltman was the director of basketball administration.
Hammond was the Pistons' vice president of basketball operations until being selected last week by Bucks owner Herb Kohl for Milwaukee's general manager position.
In Detroit, Weltman was responsible for coordinating the team's draft preparation, scouting efforts and free-agent visits.
"Jeff is a hard-working and respected NBA front-office executive," Hammond said. "He has a keen eye for talent, a tireless work ethic and a strong knowledge of the league's salary cap structure."
Weltman will work closely with Dave Babcock, who was retained as the Bucks' director of player personnel.
Hammond and Weltman have ties dating to their time in the Los Angeles Clippers organization, where Weltman started his career as a video coordinator and scout in 1988 and served as director of player personnel from 1994-2001.
Hammond was an assistant coach with the Clippers under Larry Brown from 1990-'93 and under Alvin Gentry in the 2000-'01 season
Weltman was assistant general manager of the Denver Nuggets for five seasons (2001-'06), where he worked under Kiki Vandeweghe.
Weltman's father, Harry, was a general manager in the American Basketball Association and later with Cleveland and New Jersey in the NBA.
