Also concerning is the sheer number of injuries Redd has sustained in the past two seasons.
He missed 49 games in 2008-'09, including 14 near the start of the season due to a high ankle sprain. Then came the knee ligament tears when he stepped on Luke Ridnour's foot during a game against Sacramento at the Bradley Center. He did not play in the final 35 games of last season.
Re: Bucks' Redd keeps the faith that he'll come back
I wouldn't expect Michael Redd to just give his money away... tough situation for the Bucks... just going to have to live with paying Redd a ton of money to do nothing next year.
Re: Bucks' Redd keeps the faith that he'll come back
Redd picking up his option wouldn't be bad for the Bucks if they play it right. Milwaukee simply isn't a free-agent destination, so a large expiring contract plus some young assets/picks is the best tool to land a true difference maker a Bucks GM could have outside of a top draft pick. Between Redd's monster deal and Gadzuric's contract the Bucks are set to have 25 million in expirings next year to build trades around. If Redd and Gadzuric aren't physically able to play most of next year even better, as they would qualify for partial insurance coverage and become that much more valuable to franchises looking to clear salary. So long as ownership is willing to spend it wouldn't be too hard to turn those contracts into, say, Maggette, Iguodala, Okafor, Martin, or some other player who has a large-but-not-awful contract that can really help a team.
Re: Bucks' Redd keeps the faith that he'll come back
I could do without Martin/Maggette, Okafor wouldn't be bad for defense/rebounds, and bviously I would prefer Iggy (although I doubt that would happen). Imagine BJ/Iggy/Bogut. Oh baby, I got shivers thinking about it.

It looks like Philly is looking to hit reset on their team either this month or over the summer, so Iguodala is one of the most likely guys on that list to move. If Bucks ownership offered to clear Philly's payroll by taking back Iggy AND Brand for expiring contracts they should be able to get at least Thad Young or Mo Speights thrown in as well, and possibly another asset. Brand's contract is pretty brutal, but in this particular scenario you're only asking him to be your fifth best starter or the sixth man, a role in which he'd actually be an asset. You're taking on a huge financial commitment with that trade, but I don't know if there's a better way to finish the rebuild in Milwaukee.
