Sprewell to stay with Wolves; extension sought
Quote:
Timberwolves guard Latrell Sprewell not only decided to stick around for next season -- for a cool $14.625 million -- but he might stay even longer, under a contract extension being negotiated with the team.
Sprewell's agent, Robert Gist, said Thursday that he has been talking with the Wolves for the past week about a three-year extension that could keep his client in Minnesota through the 2007-08 season.
"Kevin [McHale, Wolves vice president of basketball operations] and I, we're optimistic about that," Gist said. "Kevin and Latrell would both like to see Latrell retire as a Timberwolf. We're working on that and, in perhaps a week, Kevin and I and [owner] Glen Taylor should have something."
Gist would not discuss salary figures. "In terms of numbers, that's not a real issue," the agent said. "We think we can come up with a deal that makes sense, that reflects Latrell's value to the team and [in the league]."
