McHale: With Shaq Gone, T-wolves ready for the next step...
http://www.boston.com/sports/basketb...the_next_step/
Quote:
Out in the hinterlands, the Minnesota Timberwolves are readying for another season -- and another shot at the Western Conference title. They came close last year. They want more.
"None of us were satisfied just making it to the Western Conference finals last year," Mark Madsen said. "We wanted one thing: an NBA championship. We knocked on the door. But we couldn't stop Shaq."
Alas, Shaq has gone east, making the West as wide open as ever. While Spurs coach Gregg Popovich might be sorry to see Shaq go -- Pop said it wouldn't be the same playing the Lakers without the big guy -- you can count Timberwolves hoop boss Kevin McHale as someone who is very happy to see Shaq in Miami.
"I'm glad he's in the East," McHale said. "Let him beat those guys up for a change. He was a load for us. We had a real tough time with him. They knocked us out of the playoffs in each of the last two years.
"Miss him? No. If I miss him that much, I'll watch him on my satellite."

In all honesty, i must say that it's comments like those who true carve the nich of Shaq being a true Legend...
when was the last time we've heard someone's relief about a player going to another conference?

Very rarely was I satisfied with how I played." This obsessive quest for perfection was a constant during West's playing years, and it continued in his later roles as coach and general manager of the Lakers and, currently, as president of basketball operations for the Memphis Grizzlies.

Hmmm... I don't think so. Eventhough Shaq's game is not what it was, i believe he is still the most feared player in the league...

i disagree as well. Shaq is untouchable. I am relieved that he is out of the west, and more importantly out of LA. After what I read in the paper this morning about Phil Jackson's Book, Kobe is a real *****. I already dislike kobe tremendously, and think he's one of the most over-rated players in the league, but I'm going to go ahead and say what both Phil and Shaq have tiptoed around, and that is Kobe made them leave LA. I thank Kobe for that, because he doesn't deserve to have the most dominant player in the NBA on his side, and quite possibly the most dominant coach of all time any longer. He's been riding their coat-tails long enough, it's time to see what he can accomplish. This will probably end up being like A.I. with the sixers. He's going to put up like 30 shots a game and win a scoring title, but not much of any team accolades. This isn't a huge stretch anyway, considering he put up 20-25 shots a game w/ shaq. Lamar Odom won't be an all star in the west, and he won't be the player he was in the east. KG, Duncan, Brand, Dirk, Camby, Kenyon, Nene, Webber...he ain't ready. He wasn't ready with the clips either.

usually teams with great players have the common sense of not trading him....
although i agree with this kobe deal. he just seems like the kind of person that would destroy a team. He wants to wear the pants, but he doesnt understand that the coach is supposed to wear the pants in the relationship. soon enough rudy will figure this out and he will be gone.
