The future
I know that this offseason is pretty much over and unless McHale comes up with someone good I think that this is a 1st round exit, that being said I am looking at the FA class of 07 and 08 and wow!
http://www.hoopsworld.com/article_18280.shtml
Need a Center or SF?
07'
Boris Diaw, Chris Kaman, Chris Mihm, Desmond Mason,
Gerald Wallace, Jamaal Magloire, Jarvis Hayes, Jerry Stackhouse,
Josh Howard, Marc Jackson, Mickael Pietrus, Primoz Brezec,
Raef LaFrentz, Rashard Lewis, Vince Carter, Travis Outlaw
08'
Al Jefferson, Andre Iguodala, Andris Biedrins, Bruce Bowen,
Corey Maggette, David Harrison, DeSagana Diop, Dwight Howard,
Elton Brand, Emeka Okafor, Jermaine O'Neal, Josh Childess,
Josh Smith, Kwame Brown, Loul Deng, Nenad Krstic,
Ron Artest, Shawn Marion, Tim Ducan, Theo Ratliff
Wow, we have two summers where we could really fill some needs. We have our core of KG, Foye, McCants, Ricky Davis, after that I am comfortable with what we could get in the next two offseasons.

McHale's idea of a good trade: We receive Ricky Davis, Marcus Banks, Mark Blount, and Justin Reed. We gave up Wally and Olowakandi.
Wally: The shooter Minny needed all year.
Kandi: The cap relief they wanted at the end of the year.
Davis: The highflyer, who lost his wings this season.
Blount: Our C...who can't rebound or play D!
Banks: our new PG option, who is a FA, may not re-sign
Reed: also a FA, better hustle option than Mad Dog, may not resign.

Re: The future
i honestly think making the playoffs is a push as of right now...
i would LOVE to see KG paired with VC... and depending on the caliber of offense we get in, i wouldnt mind losing ricky davis in a trade next offseason..
our primary need right now is a solid starting center that can log 30+ mins a night with good stats... also a need is a shooter that doesnt mind taking last shots and can also easily create for himself.

Re: The future
Gonna need a lot of capspace to be looking at that caliber of player...
which is something this franchise is not good at managing
mihm may come cheap enough next off-season, and would be solid enough to put up next to KG.
it basically depends on what we are realistically trying to achieve, if we are trying to win a title while KG is still the leader here in minny (which i think we should be doing) then obviously we need vet talent and players to build around KG, hustle players and outside shooters.
otherwise its either trade KG, or realistically wait untill his contract is up to be looking for a ring, which is either my fav player leaving my fav team which i obviously dont want, or its a long long way down the track.
losing ricky doesnt concern me, the only 3 pieces of this team i really dont want leaving are KG, mccants and foye, other than that the players on this team can be easily replaced via trades and free agency.
Vince would be great, and he would be at the same stage of his career as KG, ready for one more big title run before he starts to heavily decline.
obviously would have a high asking price though.
Gerald wallace would be my pick of the '07 class, and would be great on the wing teamed with Foye, but again we need to wait and see what sort of money situation we aer in next off-season.
Josh smith is one of my personal favourite players so ill be very interested to see where he ends up come 2008

Re: The future
If David Harrison continues to ride the bench in Indy, he may not want to resign and I know that guy might be able to play 30 minutes a game as a starter, but if get Mihm next year, I'd be ok with that, becuase I believe he can hold down 25-30 as well. Also, a couple of somewhat under the radar guys for next year, Mickael Pietrus, Jarvis Hayes, and Andris Biedrins.

i think harrison is going to have a big year in indy, if not and he does leave it will definately be a big loss.. guy has some great potential to be a good center in this league

Re: The future
mihm already plays 25 mins a game... he has more offensive upside than harrison does though.
i would like to see jarvis hayes play for us, this SF is a good scorer and can definitely contribute. He needs some help with shot selection, but other than that this guy can play. He kind of got lost in the rotation after jamison got to wizards.
next offseason, we will get a high lottery pick which i think we should once again trade for a veteran who CAN contribute. These next couple years are KGs last MVP candidate years... so I think anyone who is still 'developing' or 'maturing' can GTFO. Iverson, VC... maybe maggette... would be great paired wit KG... even at the high costing price. The payout will be worth it...
let's just hope minny management can do something big, otherwise, KG is gone...

Those are the players technically available. How many do you think will ever see the light of free agency? Most will be re-signed by their teams at the earliest possible minute.
Boris Diaw-Suns will never let him go.
Chris Kaman-Clips will never let him go
Chris Mihm-no one wants him
Desmond Mason-no one wants him
Gerald Wallace-Bobcats will never let him go
Jamaal Magloire-interesting possibility
Jarvis Hayes--interesting possibility
Jerry Stackhouse-assuming his personal life doesn't intrude, the Mavs will keep him
Josh Howard-not going anywhere
Marc Jackson--interesting possibility
Mickael Pietrus--wellll...okay, maybe
Primoz Brezec-Bobcats will never let him go
Raef LaFrentz-who wants him?
Rashard Lewis
Vince Carter-nowhere near what he's cracked up to be
Travis Outlaw-UGH
So that's four of the '07 class who'll realistically be available.
Al Jefferson-Feh
Andre Iguodala-Philly might be stupid enough to let him go, but they shouldn't
Andris Biedrins-interesting possiblility
Bruce Bowen-Spurs will never let him go
Corey Maggette-UGH. He'll NEVER be what he should've been.
David Harrison-nice choice
DeSagana Diop-meh
Dwight Howard-Magic will never let him go
Elton Brand-Clips will never let him go
Emeka Okafor-That's a Kevin McHale pick up! Reference: Corey Maggette and Emeka Okafor
Jermaine O'Neal-Pacers will never let him go
Josh Childress-interesting possibility
Josh Smith-interesting possibility
Kwame Brown-If he's the Kwame he was the second half of the season, no way the Lakers give him up. If he's the Kwame he was with DC, no way the Wolves should want him.
Loul Deng- interesting possibility
Nenad Krstic- Nets will never let him go
Ron Artest-Once a nutcase, always a nutcase. Reference: Dennis Rodman
Shawn Marion-Suns will never let him go
Tim Ducan-Spurs will never let him go
Theo Ratliff-UGH.
That's five from the '08 group.
I'm not saying there's not lots of good stuff going into free agency this next couple of years. Of course there is....but don't count on getting much of it, if any.
