A sore hip and back kept Sam Cassell out of practice Saturday. Then he didn’t participate in the Sunday morning shootaround before gametime. Instead Cassell was receiving treatments on his injuries but it wasn’t enough to get him ready to compete.

Just 43 seconds into the game, Cassell took himself out of the lineup and headed to the Wolves’ lockerroom. Reserve Darrick Martin subbed for Cassell and had a career day.

"I thanked him for a great 45 seconds," Wolves coach Flip Saunders said. "I suppose if you look at it like he didn't play tonight, it's a positive for us. He has four days' rest [before Game 3]. Maybe he'll have a little more hop on Tuesday and be able to give us more minutes."

"I am going to get back to where I need to be to help this team win a championship," Cassell said. "I'm going to get back." And then he said he would be in the lineup Tuesday in Los Angeles. "I'm going Tuesday," he said. "I'm definitely going Tuesday."

Hopefully Sam I Am will return on Tuesday. Martin convinced me, sure, but Sam is more clutch and I guess Martin can't hold that level through the whole series. With Sam being the General, the Wolves will even be more competitive.

I don't even know what his injury is, but if sitting out Game 3 will get him back for Game 4, then do it! You only need to win one in LA. Take your best shot w/Martin in Game 3 and hope you can have Sam for Game 4. You'll need him; Kobe is coming back from Colorado that day.
