Junior Dos Santos vs. Cain Velasquez

Gotta love a big time fight free on TV! Gotta go with Cain in this one. After seeing him make Brock Lesnar look silly, it's hard to think anyone can beat him.

Re: Junior Dos Santos vs. Cain Velasquez

Kind of disappointed that there was absolutely no card for the T.V. broadcast. Bad timing for a 64 second fight to take place lol. Whole lot of hoopla for almost no action.

Otherwise it was great presentation... just feel it should have had SOME sort of under card.

Re: Junior Dos Santos vs. Cain Velasquez

The Henderson vs. Guida fight was good, but the Fox big wigs only wanted one fight for the main card because the deal doesn't technically start till 2012, so this was just a teaser.

This. I wanted Junior to win and happy he won, he came a long way for that moment.

Re: Junior Dos Santos vs. Cain Velasquez

Quote:
The early numbers are in according to TVByTheNumbers.com and the approximate amount of viewers for UFC: Velasquez vs. dos Santos is 4.64 million viewers. During the same hour (9pm, eastern), a college football game between Oregon and Stanford (ABC) did 7.11 viewers and a rerun of NCIS on CBS did a 5.50 million.

The UFC show had 2.4 million viewers in the 18-49 demographic, second only to the college football game for the night on network television.

The UFC and Fox unofficially expected their broadcast to break the record held by the Kimbo Slice/James Thompson fight which pulled in over 6 million viewers three years ago.
Not good for UFC or Fox

Re: Junior Dos Santos vs. Cain Velasquez

I dont know how ratings work.. but I wonder if it accounts for the many people who likely tuned in and got sick of waiting with Joe Rogan for a half hour.

Re: Junior Dos Santos vs. Cain Velasquez

after the finale numbers come out it turns out it was a pretty big success after all(it would have been said if it wasnt)

Quote:
Los Angeles – History was made last night as the UFC made its broadcast television debut on FOX, and a record audience tuned in as the challenger, Junior dos Santos defeated defending champion Cain Velasquez in a first round knock out to claim the coveted heavyweight crown. It was the most-watched UFC event ever and the most-watched professional fight of any kind in eight years, according to fast national ratings made available by Nielsen Media Research.

The hour-long UFC on FOX premiere scored a 3.1/5 household rating/share, with 5.7 million viewers making it the most-watched UFC event ever and the most-watched professional fight of any kind on any network since 2003 when 7.0 million tuned in to watch Lewis-Klitschko on HBO. Velasquez-dos Santo is also the highest-rated and most-watched professional fight of any kind on a broadcast network for OSCAR DE LA HOYA’S FIGHT NIGHT on FOX. (4.3/6, 5.9 million viewers) in 1998.

Re: Junior Dos Santos vs. Cain Velasquez

Cain coming back from a long layoff and the heavyweights with the one punch KO power... Dana shouldve seen the writing on the wall.

Though its always easier to say stuff like this the day after.

I know right? I'm gonna go with Lesnar to beat Overeem on the 30th, though I really like both guys.
