Thoughts:

The other survivors aren't neccessarily on the same island, just have to be near enough to be from the same wreck - making a 'meeting of hatches' impossible

Could a disease have killed the other 17 - such as one that would cause a qaurantine seal to be put on the hatch?

The pit that Sawyer, Mike and Jin were in was obviously not new - why was it dug, and who was imprisoned (or quarantined) in it before? It also appeared to be far enough away from their hatch as to be inconvenient - they wanted whatever was in the pit to be away from them. Has the tail camp gone all " lord of the flies" on us?

Possibly, but when Michael and Sawyer landed back on the island after they ran ashore with their wrecked boat, they did say "home, sweet home." Also, the current that pushed the flotsam back to the island also pushed the message bottle back to the island where the survivors from the front of the plane were. So it should be the same island.

Ok so a couple of things...

That genetic mirror theory is a hoax, nobody named Rousseau every published anything under that title or with that information inside of it.

Two of the most important characters have very interesting names...

John Locke-brilliant British philosopher that came up with the foundations of modern democracy and capitalism

Jack Sheppard-a famous British criminal who escaped from prison 4 times and almost fooled the executioner as well, this strikes me as odd especially but I believe Jack is the man behind the mystery.

However, as I've been piecing this together a couple things strike me as odd...

The connection to Nigeria

4 8 15 16 23 42 are geographical coordinates to the south of Nigeria, the opposite place in the world, clear ocean in the South Pacific.

The dharma logos seem to have a connection to six specific constellations and the Dharma Project itself fascinates me...

Anyways my entire theory...

The island on which these 48 people landed (I know there is more now) was a research institute (check out thehansofoundation.org) and there are seven hatches on the island relating to the seven fields in which the foundation studied. Now the question becomes what is the relation between the magic numbers, the characters, and the others. One specific area strikes me as interesting...the juxtapositional eugenics field which is one of the seven listed. Juxtaposition eugenics literally means putting two things together in order to compare them and eugenics means the creation of specific DNA sets through forced breeding, etc. (populated during the late 1890s by whites seeking to prevent the spread of black blood into whites...so racist). Sooooo what happened if you created two different sets of people exactly alike and then through intervention caused them to arrive on a controlled location at the exact same time, who wins and who loses? Could this be the mystery? Not genetic mirror, but an experiment by ambitious scientists to determine whether traits are inherited or learned through experience.

Everybody seems connected in some way but why???

Man this show has me hooked, it's not my favorite (go 24 and Arrested Development) but its up there...

I remembered John Locke, but Jack's name never sparked my memory of that guy. Could you clarify your theory a bit - ie is there gonna be two of each person on the island? Or people that look different but have very similar genetic material regarding behaviour/ though process etc?


So your' saying if they start digging they can escape to Nigeria?? heheheheh I wonder how the drug smugglers plane fits in?

Can't wait for tonights episode. We now make a night of it - my buddy comes to visit from out of town, me and my fiance and him smoke a couple of fatties and then rant for an hour after it about what everythng could mean.

Yeh, John Locke's idea greatly influenced the American Revolution. He believed in a "social contract" between the people and the government and if the government ever became a tyrant then the people had the power to overthrow the government.

Also another political guy is Jean Jacques Rousseau........Danielle Rousseau. There's also that scientist they mentioned BF Skinner and the "skinner box" concept.

Well atleast there was some excitement.

The problem is, there are so many characters sprawled all over the island, that they can't possibly all be shown each episode. With them adding characters they need to kill some people off fast IMO. Too much going on, it's hard to cover everyone and tell the story properly.

What I'm saying is that there is a continous reference to "the others" and one of the areas in the Hanso Foundation study was juxtapositional eugenics. My theory is that this is simply an experiment by the Hanso Foundation to see if you put somebody's exact twin next to them and they've never met and had completely different upbringings, will they show the same characteristics and who will win? I think its prolly deeper than that because there are seven different "fields" but it is an interesting connection nonetheless. If anything I enjoy the premise that everything happens for a reason.
