The Ring 2 on HBO..

So inferior to the first film its almost funny. They managed to take out everything that made the first one enjoyable to watch and replace it with cliche' garbage.

The New World

Started out great with some extremely beautiful scenes with breathtaking nature images, but the second part of the movie was pretty meaningless in my opinion, I didn't care for the ending at all.

Walk the Line 10/10

This is my pick for best movie of the year, along with Serenity. Phoenix was compelling as Johnny Cash, Witherspoon was great, and the supporting cast was perfect in their roles. Even though it was clear how the story would end, it was gripping throughout the movie. I'm not even a fan of his music, but I thoroughly enjoyed watching Joaquin perform them. Great, great movie. Over 2 hours long though, so make sure you have time.

Crash - 9.5/10 Choice for Best Picture

Ultraviolet - 5/10 Surprisingly a little more entertaining than first thought.

Walk The Line - 9.5/10 My favorite and IMO Best Movie of the year

For those who watched Walk the Line, what makes it such a great film and a standout from other musician biographies?

Last movie I watched was Constant Gardener - 7.5/10. Not as great as some say, but Ralph Fiennes is always enjoyable to watch.

Walk the Line was great because a) you really got a feel for not only the main character, but for his life as a musician, as a son, as a husband, and as an icon. At every step of the film, more layers were added, and his difficult life and mistakes were laid out so that they'd have meaning to the viewer, and in context as well. Also, the atmosphere was really created well. I had no trouble believing that I was seeing 1950's (and related decades) scenes. Joaquin Phoenix really drew people in, showing the torment and inspiration very well, and performing with evident joy and flair - much like the actual musician. I liked Walk the Line, but in no way is it the best movie of the year.

It's just another well-made biopic.

Last night Jon Stewart called it "Ray" with white people.

When you consider all the parallels--long-time substance abuse and related run-ins with the police, tumultous yet enduring relationships, brothers who died when Ray/Johnny were young, sobering-up late in life--the joke seems to be pretty accurate.

People are obsessed with the music bioipics right now.

Val Kilmer was just as good as Jim Morrison in The Doors in 1991 as Jamie Foxx or Joquian Phoenix was in their movies. If Kilmer has played the role of Morrison in the last two years he would have easily been nominated for an oscar.

Because the writer must be a participant in the scene, while he's writing it – or at least taping it, or even sketching it. Or all three.
