Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Watching the Alien series would be worth your while anyway. The first two are very good movies.

Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Warrior- 3.5/5
Kind of torn on this, the story is downright corny in places, and some of the convolutions are beyond the ability of anyone to suspend disbelief (what, they can't figure out that Brendan Conlan & Tommy are brothers when the latter's being coached by Brendan's father, Paddy Conlan?) Joel Edgerton seems a little too weedy to be a badass MMA fighter, which further strains the audience's ability to suspend disbelief. Tom Hardy, on the other hand, is pitch perfect as the younger brother who's been warped by circumstance into a bundle of rage and perfection. In short his drunken abusive father (played by drunken abusive father Nick Nolte) raised his youngest son to be the legendary ancient Greek fighter Theagenes (a boxer, wrestler and pankrater, that last being the ancient version of modern MMA fighting), his mother flees Pittsburgh with Tommy when Tommy's a teenager and Tommy joins the marines after his mother's death. Brendan is a former MMA fighter turned schoolteacher who takes up fighting again to save his home, and so he's entering the movie's MMA tournament to save his family while his estranged brother is in the tournament to give the prize money to the family of his best friend, killed in Iraq. (Again with the schmaltz.) I wanted to like the film because the fight sequences were good. But there was too much exploitative content. They still might have redeemed the film if Brandon had played Arrichion to Tommy's Theagenes. I understand why, conceptually, Tommy has to lose the final fight, but that very result piles schmaltz upon schmaltz.

Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Thanks, now I don't have to see this one because you spoiled the whole thing.

Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Well I haven't seen anything beyond the trailer, but that alone makes me think it truly is this generations version of Alien. So much seems so similar. And I'm not surprised if some people are unhappy with Prometheus. Ridley Scott's other sci fi's (Alien and Blade Runner) are remembered greatly now, but some people weren't as high on them at release, and some who watch them now wonder what all the hype was about. Movies like that often are remembered fondly over time (ala 2001: A Space Odyssey. Kubrick's acolytes and many film buffs worship it now, but it would probably bore the shit out of most movie goers these days who expect relentless action unless they go into a Tarantino film where they already know it's going to be heavy on dialogue). Film is a very subjective media, and often even when you can objectively identify greatness, you can still not enjoy the film. I think that will be what happens with some of Prometheus's fans. Personally, I can't wait to see it.

Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Maybe we should just say Kevin James Movie/10?

Re: Rate the last movie you saw
So, I propose the new Great Compromise: New Worst level is any movie with Kevin James in it or anything after Anger Management starring Sandler. Any takers?

Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Prometheus 10/10
This movie was ****ing awesome! Seriously crazy good. There were scenes where I was squirming in my seat from the suspense. Go see this movie. British Baller, I regret to inform you that you have failed me, this forum, and mankind with your review of this movie.
