It would've been interesting if he continued to make music, and that never happened. There were some talk about him getting away from grunge all together. He must've had something good in mind if this were true.

What song? I was just looking through the tracklist b/c i have that box set on my comp and I couldnt for the life of me figure out which song you were referring to? "I hate myself and want to die" maybe?

My point is that the Lowest Common Denominator is sinking rapidly. We are infinitely more stupid as a nation than we were 20 years ago. And don't get me wrong there is fantastic movies, books, and music coming out today. Hell I listen, read, and watch most of them. The problem is that stuff isn't getting through to the majority of people. I'll have to check Vollmann out. Can you PM me his work and maybe a little sypnosis of his style.

I think I give my sister too much credit sometimes. She's a smart girl, but I see the stuff she "believes" in and it makes me concerned.
Eh, I've watched old Instructional Videos from the 50s, etc. quite extensively and they are incredibly backward and ****ed up, and in many ways much more so than "Laguna Beach". And it's the same sort of themes that are problematic with television today... blind, almost child-like worship of technology/new products, sexism, racism, encouragement of living a self fulfilling lifestyle, etc. And I watch these and people say things like, "People back then were so ignorant blah blah blah" and I just don't buy it. Just like I don't buy that people are "infinitely stupider" today. People have always been pretty crazy and messed up and they probably always will be.

Anywho, I just watched an interview with Alice Walker, the woman who wrote The Color Purple, most famously. She was talking about a story she wrote called "Everyday Use" which is about a black woman in the 1960s who very shallowly embraces afrocentrism, and rejects her roots, but still wants to cling onto certain artifacts from her roots that she deems valuable. Basically, she embraces her own roots in the shallow way that she embraces afrocentrism.

At any rate, Alice Walker said something in the interview that was very similar to what I was planning on saying to you, she said: "What needs to happen to her is she needs to have a breakdown. All people who aren't living truthfully to themselves eventually reach a point where they will have a breakdown."

Which is true, I think. I mean we all have the truth revealed to us in one way or another, and I can assure you that the same will happen to your sister or anyone else who values things that simply aren't valuable.

As per Kurt Cobain, indeed Nirvana was a wonderful band, and he was a truly visceral. Is the "b-side" or whatever you are referencing Dissonance entitled "Moist Vagina" ?

True. Strange to remember, sometimes, that I'm no longer the cherished target audience. Perhaps for those 18-30 year olds, MTV still makes sense.

Re: OT-MTV turns 25

MTV2 is playing crap reality shows as well.

And unlike you guys I don't even give their shows a chance anymore. It's been about 2 years since I watched MTV, so I don't even know if what they are showing is bad.

Why Doesn't MTV Play Music Videos Anymore?

It's obvious, but this is still a funny way to explain it.

Ah, just saw this 6 yrs later. Weird.

I should've just put it though before. Not sure why I didn't. I never stop myself from anything like that. But it's "Moist Vagina."

Re: OT-MTV turns 25

In the past 10 years or so, MTV was at its best in light of MJ's passing. They actually had quality videos for a week. Normally they show train wrecks to keep you from switching channels.

It's a disgusting network, but I'll admit to watching their shows before.
