Meh I thought the finale left a lot to be desired. I didn't think it was up to snuff when it came to meeting my expectations for it. It was kind of like they saw the obvious way to wrap it up and then did exactly that. Personally I find tv more entertaining when the throw a monkey wrench into the works rather than doing things by the book in terms of the plot twists and developement etc.,etc.

Spoilers

I called out the brother thing so long ago as I'm sure so did a lot of you. I thought they did the whole conflicting intrests things with Dex choosing between his slowly maturing, self constructed faux life and the potential free and honest life he could have with his brother quite nicely. Unfortunately I think they played everything too safe, when it would have made for better television had they gone with a more drastic conclusion. Perhaps something like they did with weeds would have been sick.

You called the brother thing? I didnt even once think he was Dexter brother..Good call i thought that being thrown in was a good twist and making dexter pretty much choose between the 2 was a good plot and showed that Dexter is human..Also another thing i wonder did Doakes see Dexter kill him? He was following Dexter around the whole time how didnt he catch that? Sometimes Doaxes seems more freaky then Dexter lol that guy was just following him around he had to see Dexter kill Rudy...I bet he just didnt care because you know he got a thing for Deb you can tell how crazy he was going when they figured out it was Rudy..Overall great finale to warp up one hell of a season probly one of the best on TV in the past few years

Presumably it was a botched drug deal, or something of that nature.

Re: Dexter

Awesome finale. That Dexter parade at the end was a nice ending, anyone know when next season starts?

Yeah, they did mention some kind of vague drug related motive. I think that needs to be explained in much greater detail.

She was killed in a cargo container with a chainsaw (while fully alive and aware) in front of her children, who were left to sit in her blood with her corpse sitting there for days.

It takes a lot of hatred for someone to do that. Either that or it was a message for someone.

I hope they delve into that next season. That is a very interesting angle.

Most characters and shows are cliched. When you can execute a cliche well it becomes far less important that it's a cliche in the first place. Screenwriting 101.

The show is great, as are most of the characters outside of Dexter.

And most TV shows suck. The top tier TV shows, which I was saying Dexter wasn't one of, don't have the type of cliched characters that Dexter has. A cliche done well is still a cliche. And cliches are more often than not annoying and off putting. Common Sense 101.

Yes, the top tier shows all have cliched characters, some similar to Dexter. And being a cliche, by itself, is not relevant if it's done well. Hence your original post is bunk.

No, they don't. Dexter employs by the books cliches at alarming rate. The black cop who is always angry and has it in for the protagonist, but proves to be a good guy. The lady boss who is a big *****, until it is revealed that she went through just what little sis went through. The forensics geek who is a big perv.

My post was my opinion of the show. As much as you post your opinion, it doesn't debunk mine. I don't feel Dexter is a top-tier show. One of the main reasons I feel that way is because of their abundance of cliched characters. Pretty simple.

Um, I said I enjoyed the show. Just because I don't put it up there with shows like The Wire or The Office or Curb Your Enthusiasm doesn't mean I think it sucks. I went out of my way and watched the whole season, so obviously I enjoy it. I think it's a good, but not great show.

If you want to see negative reviews though, I can show you some. Even if I don't agree with them.

wtf? Sounds like you made up those cliches off the top of your head. What previous shows have employed those cliches that make them as tired as you're implying? CSI? Law and Order? X-Files? What?

What about, for example, Lost's characters is so terribly different from Dexter that it would make you believe it's not a top tier show? The not-so-caring but turns-into-Patch Adams doctor in Jack, the fat insecure comedian in Hurley, the tough red-neck with a checkered past in Sawyer? Gimme a break, talk about cliches. Except it doesn't matter because those characters are interesting, their background/stories are intersting (just like the characters in Dexter), and they're executed well. I won't even get into Lost's cheesy dialogue.

And opinion is great, but you came in here acting all "surprised" at the praise Dexter getting when it is clearly one of the most unique shows out there.
