Re: Dexter - Season 5
Yeah, I just finally caught up with this show. I've been a season behind everybody else since the show premiered. This will be the first time I'm watching new episodes.
Pretty excited too, because the set up to this season is one of the best set-ups I've seen. If they execute it right, there's no reason this shouldn't be the best season of Dexter yet.

Re: Dexter - Season 5
Decent premiere, and the preview for the rest of the season got me more anxious. I can't wait to see how he gets himself of the 'Kyle Butler' stuff.

Re: Dexter - Season 5
It wouldn't be Dexter then. It would be cool for a couple of episodes, but after that it would be a drain. The drama always comes from Dexter trying to balance both lives while trying not to get caught. Him leaving everything behind him and just killing everyone would get boring.

Re: Dexter - Season 5
Not just filler, but annoying filler. I hope they minimised these episodes this season, because this season lacks the commanding storyline of season 4. The Trinity Killer and Lithgow's performance in the role were so fantastic that we could ignore the soap-opera crap that's been creeping in. But "Dexter putting his life back together" just doesn't have the same power that Trinity had last season, or even The Skinner & Miguel Prado of season 3. So the whole "Angel & LaGuerta are married!" and Deb's romances are now even more ****ing annoying as there's nothing to distract us from them.

Re: Dexter - Season 5
^ I think it'll just get better from now. Quinn is on chase to find out the mystery of Kyle Butler. His path with Dexter is bound to come across. Glad, the kids are gone, too. Astor was annoying.

Re: Dexter - Season 5
The kids were definitely annoying. Hopefully we get a break from them for a couple of weeks.
I love the coming story line with Quinn following up the Kyle Butler stuff, leading to him meeting up with Trinity's son.

Re: Dexter - Season 5
Here's what I wrote on my forum and I got the Pay Ton co-sign (that carries weight around here, bitch):
For all the excitement I had for Dexter this season's first two episodes have been terrible. With Dexter off the screen for much of the time it shows how much the rest of the cast sucks. Not only is Michael C. Hall the best actor on the show by far but his character is the only one with any real depth. So they have scenes with the police department and I find myself not caring at all. There's too much filler and they're trying too hard to establish an emotional weight due to the after effects of the season four finale. They stretched some things out way too long. Now Quinn is catching up to a lie Dexter made last season so it should get more interesting. Problem is Quinn is a terribly boring character and they already did the police officer suspects Dexter and chases him (in season two). There's a different angle here but it won't be as compelling because Quinn is flat and his only development is having sex with Deb (gag). If the show gets back to suspense it'll be on the right track. If it tries to add some emotional weight it's going to falter big time. This show has never had two episodes in a row that were as bad as the first two of this season (I'd actually say these were the worst two of the show).

Re: Dexter - Season 5
^ Mazuka has been the MVP of the series so far. He said precisely what everyone was thinking at Dexter's house: "I always pictured Rita naked..but not like this.." lol - and in last week episode, he got blood all over him.
Dexter is being Dexter. "I'm sorry for your loss"

Re: Dexter - Season 5
If this episode continues the season's course I don't see how the show really recovers. It would be an indication that the writers made the conscious decision to go with the soap operaey crap over Dexter. They're rapidly encouraging me to shut the show off and wait for season 6.

Re: Dexter - Season 5
^ Dexter makes a mistake, and the season just got really interesting. I bet he'll keep Julia Stiles at Boyd's place to keep himself safe.

Re: Dexter - Season 5
Is it too much to hope for a happy ending? I'd dearly love to see Julia Stiles dead...
