re: The Wire

Thinking back on it, I liked the Barksdale Bell combo a hell of a lot more than Marlo and Chris. Not even close by comparison. Avon sold the street act while Bell was the calculating genius behind Avon. Marlo, who looked like an anorexic 50 Cent wasn't selling me on anything, although I started to like a little bit more as they fleshed out his character.

Soiler
McNulty being on the pool table at the end with everyone openly talking about what he did was terrible to me. So they what, just told everyone what happened in the end? Bull****. Although I do tend to hate the endings of long running series, and its probably more with me just being upset that I know the show is over and done with.

Re: iCarly does the Wire

That's great.

And the fact that the kid delivers it just like Snoop, as he was probably told to (or shown to), and I'm sure he has no idea what the reference is.

Re: iCarly does the Wire

I gotta watch season 5 again, I don't remember Snoop's death at all. Must have been Michael doing the killing though, right?

Love the laugh track though. I'm picturing a studio audience of 11 year olds all laughing to a Wire reference that I don't even remember. Crazy.

What I found upsetting about not only Marlo, but how they left the streets at the end of the show, was that it seemed to be "THIS generation stands for nothing but violence! It's CHANGED!" And Marlo was the poster boy for that view that I think that line was even repeated tons of times by like maybe Prop Joe and some other dudes. Cheese would have been another representative of that CHANGED generation.

But then they have the whole arc with the kids with Michael becoming Omar and Dookie becoming Bubbles and all that. So the whole point of the kids thing is that it hasn't changed, it's just a cycle.

Marlo and his crew came out of nowhere. No back story, no history, and really no motivation. Marlo seems to like beating people up, but he doesn't even enjoy the sex, money, and power that comes with his position. He just seems like a hollow caricature of a gangster, and his crew is the same way. Hanging out in a rim shop, no one knowing who they are, having boring Escalade sex with Avon's honey trap that he doesn't even look like he enjoys. I think Marlo was cool as hell, but there's a difference between thinking "COOL" and riding an emotional wave of character development which we had with Stringer and Avon. Marlo was simple and in that way he was unusual. He wasn't real. Stringer and Avon were real. D'Angelo was real.
