Re: Star Trek: The New Movie
Actually I mostly agree with you, I'm not as bothered by random plot coincidences like that as some other people around here. I do vaguely object to the idea that a parallel universe would have ended up with almost the exact same result... George Kirk's son being named James Tiberius, growing up in Iowa, entering Starfleet, and rising to the captaincy of a ship called Enterprise, with Spock as his first officer, McCoy as the ship's physician, etc... but none of these are dealbreakers.

Re: Star Trek: The New Movie
The same planet maybe. Relatively same location on the face of a planet? Finding Spock in a nondescript ice cave? This isn't perfect sense.
I thought this movie was awesome but I can't deny that this coincidence is pretty out there. Still doesn't hurt the movie at all in my eyes. |

Re: Star Trek: The New Movie
Ok, so I just saw it last night...Great movie and Im not usually into this type of movie....but I must say...
SLIGHT SPOILER! Towards the end of the movie when Spock is in the space craft from the future he goes into warp speed to get away from the bad guys (forget name). The bad guys say "Hes gone into warp speed", the captain replies " Go after him"...all I could think of was the Spaceballs scene: Colonel Sandurz: They must have hyperjets on that thing. Dark Helmet: And what do we have on this thing? A cuisinart?

Re: Star Trek: The New Movie
This was a very fun movie, but it's also a movie you shouldn't think too much about and just enjoy it.
There's a lot of explaining, and overall there's a lot more flash than substance. That being said I really enjoyed the movie and it felt more like a summer blockbuster than a Star Trek movie for better or for worse. I feel it did an effective job setting the table for the reboot but now the question is whether or not Abrams is capable of following this up.

i saw it a few days ago and thought it was a very good movie. not perfect, obviously but good and definitely entertaining. i don't understand where all the ridiculous complaints in this thread are coming from.

Light speed's too slow, we'll have to go to Ludicrous speed.
