Granted, I have never seen him make a funny in a movie EVER! So if the main character in Iron Man is supposed to make you laugh ever, Cruise will F it up

A comedy like Ironman requires over the top pomposity. It wouldn't be nearly as funny if the actor's playing for laughs. He has to be convinced that he's making great art. Just like Pearl Harbor wouldn't have been half as hilarious if Affleck and Baldwin were playing it for yucks. Compare it to the droll buddy action comedy with Josh Hartnett & Harrison Ford, Hollywood Homicide. That had about a tenth the laughs of Pearl Harbor. If they'd had Michael Bay directing and Bomb Crews starring I'll guarantee you that we'd be looking at one of the funniest films of all time.

But all of the comedy was inadvertant. I thought Hollywood Homicide was a lot funnier than Pearl Harbor. Now Showtime... THAT was a funny movie!

I don't get it. Bomb Crews? As in Tom "I haven't had a movie make less than $100 million domestically since 1999" Cruise?

Since the new millenium started, Tom Cruise has starred in 7 movies. Those 7 movies alone have totaled over $1 billion domestically. That's an average of about $150 million per flick. Worldwide, those 7 movies have made close to $3 billion, averaging about $400 million each. There is no arguing that he is one of the biggest earners today, and in history. Nowhere close to bombs.

By the way, it's one thing to dislike Cruise as a person, but when you don't show respect for him as an actor, the only thing you are showing is an inferior, and incorrect opinion. Quite simply, ehmunro, you are a bad person.

And still the debate is raging over why Downey was a good choice or not.

Maybe I should post a few responses from actual comic book enthusiasts on what they thought of the trailer and the cast. Once again, only a very select few are complaining about this movie so far.

Regarding Cruise, as bankable an actor as he is, this movie will have no problems hitting the 100 mill mark with or without him

And Titanic was the greatest movie ever made. The box office receipts are proof. Kate Winslet is the greatest actress alive and Leonrado DiCaprio the new Olivier. And, given that he was in Gone with the Wind, Clark Gable is the greatest actor ever, and Joan Crawford the greatest actress. The attendance figures are proof. And they have a better claim as way back in the day Hollywood made movies aimed at adults, rather than the current model which is overwhelmingly targeted at adolescent boys (and girls, which is how Titanic rang up its box office). Either way, my dislike of Cruise as an actor is only proof that my tastes have matured beyond adolescence.

Tom Cruise the Scientologist closet-case nutjob is considerably more entertaining than Tom Cruise the actor. Part of his problem, of course, is that he'll make any ****ty movie that comes along so long as they pay him.

Do you know what a Bomb is? It is usually a term that refers to the box office, where Cruise has had nothing but success. Perhaps there is just some sort of gay backlash to Cruise?

Your last comment to PDB was flat out ridiculous, too. He makes any movie that will come along and pay him? Cruise is extremely selective, making only about one movie a year.
