Ledger mentioned that in another interview few months ago. That's what got me even more excited about it. Not that I wasn't already.

Good to hear. Dark Victory is the follow-up to it. A re-envisioning of the introduction of Robin.

I was thinking of checking out "The Dark Knight Returns" next as the idea of a Gothem without Batman...and broken Bruce Wayne sounds pretty dark and wild to me. Should I skip it and go straight to DV? Throw me in with the group that always disliked Robin. That disdain for the character comes from his portrayal primarily in the TV show and movies though, so maybe I'll like his comicbook persona more. I liked what they did with his character in the Batman Beyond movie. Is it a darker version of robin more akin to that?

I also remember one of the few Batman comics I ever purchased one was right after Bane broke Batman in half. It wasn't robin who took over his spot, but another guy who looked alot like him. It was like Nighthawk or something (keep in mind, this was like 10+ years ago) and he was a ****ing badass. He tore Bane to shreads in an extremely violent way it seemed and was on the brink of abandoning the credo that Batman lived by. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? It may not have been as cool as I remember it being that I was such a little kid, but it had to be fairly good to stick out to me from the other 300+ comics I had growing up.

Nightwing? If you're talking Nightwing, that's just Dick Grayson (a.k.a. Robin) all grown up.

Robin is actually a good character in Dark Victory, but it doesn't matter if you read that or DKR first. They're both on their own. Just don't read The Dark Knight Strikes Again. One of the worst pieces of trash in the history of trash. **** Frank Miller to hell for that one.

As for buying versus downloading, whereas I have no problem downloading music or movies, when it comes to literature and art, I need the real thing in front of me.

I meant more specifics. I could never find the places people would talk about. Pm me.

I have trouble reading literature online also. It makes my eyes hurt if I do it for too long. All nighters used to be a *****. I wouldn't mind doing it with easy reading like comics, though I'd perfer having it right there in front of me.

Nevermind about the comic issue I was talking about. I hunted it down and re-read it. Turns out it was Batman #500 and it was ****ing lame. I was 9 when I got it though so I guess that explains why I enjoyed it so much. For the record in the issue there was 2 robins ( a young one and nightwing) and then the guy who took over BW's spot as batman was some guy named Jean Paul or something along those lines who apparently was formally referred to as Azriel. Either way don't bother with this comic...it blew.

Re: Heeeeeere's the Joker!

Dark Victory is fairly good and Robin doesn't overwhelm the story. Another suggestion would be Batman: Year One. Begins drew heavily for that and it has one of the few images comic books have seared into my head. I won't spoil it for you, but if jmk or somebody else who has read it wants to take a guess, they are welcome. I will never, ever forget that image and its accompanying words.

Oh and let's not hype up Jeph Loeb too much. He's had his high points (as highlighted in this thread) but he's probably missed just as much. I could probably name 50 writers better off the top of my head.

Red Hulk? AYFKM?
