Subtract Katie Holmes acting and replace it with the superb Maggie Gyllenhall, add a fully committed Ledger (who may end up in an institution himself after this role, at least it seems that way from what I'm reading), and I think you'll have a fantastic movie that satisfies both the casual "Batman is wicked awesome" fan and the "this is just like The Killing Joke" fan.

Looks amazing.

Did anyone else here that the first 6 minutes will be shown before I am Legend at IMAX and Batman isn't even in them?

The 6 minute prologue has already been described here, but now an additional pic has been provided:

Brilliant screen shot. Promo-worthy stuff.

The more that comes out about the movie, the better it sounds. The 6 minutes sounded unreal.

One of the things so incredible about Batman is that Bruce Wayne appears almost disgusted by the fact he isn't Batman constantly. Nolan definitely twisted the image. Wayne is hardly a playboy in the comics, he's more Howard Hughes than lets say a young Donald Trump. Wayne is reclusive, lonely, and survives not through his Batman "fetish", but rather his Wayne personality suffers because he is Batman, in the truest sense. Loeb's Dark Victory and Long Halloween captures this perfectly.

What Nolan did was say "It would be almost suspect if this reclusive billionaire wasn't Batman" and one of my criticims initally was that Nolan turned Bruce Wayne into Tony Stark, but after a 2nd and 3rd viewing of the film I realized that there is a subtext where Wayne is so sarcastic and dismissive of the things Stark actually enjoys, that you being to realize that Bruce is disgusted by the fact that he has to take time out of his life as Batman, the neverending hunt, to decrease suspicion of himself. And I think from Year One to Loeb's books to Hush to Identity Crisis, Wayne is the altar ego, Batman is the truth.
That's what I was saying! It's not "This is Bruce Wayne who dresses up as Batman at nights" but rather "This is Batman who has to dress up as Bruce Wayne everyday."

Like I said, Batman doesn't dress up as Bruce Wayne and Bruce Wayne doesn't dress up as Batman. They are one in the same.

Re: Batman - Dark Knight Screencaps - Spoilers...

I really hope this doesn't go the way of being too "cartoony".

The real draw of the last film was that it seemed far more "realistic". The enemies were not any less dangerous or "cool".

But when you get henchmen in clown outfits... you are starting to lose me again.

(I HATE clowns.)

They even said so at the end of the movie. He came back as Batman wearing a Bruce Wayne mask.

Re: Batman - Dark Knight Screencaps - Spoilers...

Batman and Bruce Wayne are not one in the same. There could be a Batman without Bruce Wayne. It wouldn't even have to be a guy. See No Man's Land where The Huntress was Batman. Batman is a symbol.

I can't even remember the last time the Batman comics offered anything new about Bruce Wayne. He's rarely out of costume. And when he is he is faking a date with someone. I would say even Clark Kent is more real than Bruce Wayne.

Re: Batman - Dark Knight Screencaps - Spoilers...

When was the last time that you saw Bruce Wayne in the comics? I haven't been reading detective, but there really hasn't been more than two times he's been out of costume the whole Morrison run. I think he was skiing in one of the issues. And that was the last time.
