New Ghostbusters movie

I can't find the link now, but I read the other day that Harold Ramis confirmed that Sony has hired the writers of the Office to write a new Ghostbusters script. I'm pretty sure he said that he and Akroyd are consultants. The movie supposedly is going to feature the original ghostbusters in a smaller role as mentors to a new group. There's also talk of Judd Apatow being a producer, which may be good or bad depending on who he brings with him. I just can't see Seth Rogen or Jonah Hill working in a role like that. However, Paul Rudd and Jason Segel could be good.

You sure he wasn't refering to them penning the videogame script and doing small voice roles in that game?

I just found a different source of the same information that I was talking about in my first post (the article as a whole stinks, but the email that Ramis sent to the Chicago Tribune confirms a movie is in the works).
Quote:
"yes, columbia is developing a script for GB3 with my year one writing partners, gene stupnitsky and lee eisenberg. judd apatow is co-producing year one and has made several other films for sony, so of course the studio is hoping to tap into some of the same acting talent. aykroyd, ivan reitman and i are consulting at this point, and according to dan, bill murray is willing to be involved on some level. he did record his dialogue for the new ghostbusters video game, as did danny and i, and ernie hudson. the concept is that the old ghostbusters would appear in the film in some mentor capacity. not much else to say at this point. everyone is confident a decent script can be written and i guess we’ll take it from there.
best, harold"

Re: New Ghostbusters movie

Aykroyd says Ghostbusters 3 IS happening (just without Bill Murray)

Quote:
Good news: Ghostbusters 3 is finally happening, and should go into production within the next year. The bad news? Infamous holdout Bill Murray will, officially, not be involved. Folks, Dr. Peter Venkman has left the building.

It's been a long road for the oft-rumored Ghostbusters 3, with the proposed sequel going through numerous script drafts—but still never getting any closer to the screen.

Murray has said time and time again that he didn't want to do the movie until he was confident it could be a worthy sequel, but now it seems part three will be coming without him.

He and Harold Ramis haven't talked in 15 years, I would have been shocked if he agreed.

Re: New Ghostbusters movie

Murray would probably do it if he thought it was going to be a really good film. He probably should do something for a mass audience at this point. Murray doesn't get along well with a lot of people and he still makes movies with those same people involved.

Re: New Ghostbusters movie

Wonder what sort of money is being offered to Ackroyd and/or Murray for this film? I'm sure that neither of them would be getting the sort of money Johnny Depp gets from Mickey Mouse, but they certainly have a lot of leverage when you're negotiating to make a film that is so closely associated with the characters they created.

Re: New Ghostbusters movie

Will the new Ghostbusters be a reboot?

Quote:
In an interview over at Collider, original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman chimed in on how development is going on the third installment, and he used some interesting phraseology to describe the project:

Quote:
Well, I'd like to go forward and make new things. I think Ghostbusters probably should be remade, if we can get it all right. We're working on it, so we'll see.
I don't like it. I wanted to see a true sequel.

Surprising absolutely no one, Ghostbusters 3 has been delayed again.

Re: New Ghostbusters movie

Dan Aykroyd has plans for another one?

Quote:
Once it finally does happen, Aykroyd said he's used all that downtime to sketch up his idea for a fourth film, which would take a new team down to hell itself. The hell part is new, but this does fit with reports that part three would pass the torch to a new team, setting up a potential new Ghostbusters franchise:

"Man-hell-ttan, and the Ghostbusters in Hell would be so solid. But we gotta get maybe one or two made before that."

Re: New Ghostbusters movie

On Larry King Now,

Aykroyd said:

Quote:
We need four new Ghostbusters. We need four new Columbia students.
The reason for four new students? (Sounds like it’s gonna get crowded in Ecto 1.) Well, the new film is based around:

Quote:
New research that's being done in particle physics by the young men and women at Columbia University. ... I can say that the world or our dimension that we live in, our four planes of existence - length, height, width and time - become threatened by some of the research that is being done. And Ghostbusters, new Ghostbusters, have to come and solve the problem.
