re: "Avatar" Movie discussion
Let's get serious for a second. There is no way this movie doesn't take in considerably more than what it cost to make.
The tone of this thread is pretty strange. It sounds like some people were latching onto this as the next big movie they can think about when they masturbate and now they are spitting venom at it because it's different than they fantasized about. Transformers 2 made 400 million domestic and it is terrible. People will pay for big special effects violence, and they will pay for anything that looks "epic". This is both. If the movie is even a little good it's not going to have any problem getting 400 million, which by the way, is something nobody seems to be talking about - the prospect that it might actually be good. I have no idea if it will be. It looks like a cross between Pocahontas and Return of the Jedi. James Cameron has a pretty good track record, but it's not like he didn't make True Lies. I think the special effect look fantastic, with the possible exception of the aliens, which are more confusing than anything. I mean, they are 10 feet tall and blue, so of course they don't look realistic. Have you ever seen a picture of Sun Ming Ming? He doesn't look realistic either. They are awkward to look at in the trailer, but I suspect once you get used to them in the movie it will be fine. |

I liked the full trailer a lot more than the teaser.

re: "Avatar" Movie discussion
So apparently 20th Century Fox is not getting the response they wanted or had expected from the supposed demographic of Avatar fans (I assume the demographic is of the 18-35 male age range but who knows), so they've started trying even harder to market this to younger audiences as well now (so I assume there is a higher chance for a PG rating than before, but I still think it gets a PG-13 rating).
So with that... ...we get this... Awesome. This is almost as funny as this... I'm still going to watch this film, but the marketing for it has been hilarious.

re: "Avatar" Movie discussion
Oh my.
Anyways, the studio is trying to tell people that this movie only cost about $230M to make, but anyone who has a clue is positive that with advertising and the like, the budget easily tops $500M.

re: "Avatar" Movie discussion
It was broken down, yes it runs into $500 mill, but 20th century Fox really doesn't have that much invested in it. I think they are responsible for world wide advertising, but if the movie flops, they are not losing a ton of money.

re: "Avatar" Movie discussion
Wow you sure have lofty expectations for it. I am thinking $300 mill, conservative estimate, but if it does Hyperion's numbers, Cameron is going t be seriously rich.
