re: "Avatar" Movie discussion
I'm going to assume that this movie will break into the Top 25 all time movies for money made. Ice Age has made more than $850 million, I can't see a movie coming out during Christmas time that can't top that. If you're willing to concede that it's going to be better than Narnia, then it will gross more than $750 million (add another $60million to adjust for inflation and maybe even more due to the sheer number of theaters it's going to open in)

Maybe you didnt notice, but Fox has sneakily tossed in the Chipmunks sequel the following week, as backup just in case their big budget movie doesnt do so well.

re: "Avatar" Movie discussion
I'm excited for this flick since I'm a huge fan of sci fi movies (this has been a great year for scifi btw). James Cameron AND Sigourney Weaver? Thats a great combination.
Only thing I don't like is the way the aliens look; reminds me way too much of Night Elves from World of Warcraft but I suppose I'll be able to get over it as I did Ewoks, Gungans, etc. More scifi blockbusters the better especially if its the legendary James Cameron behind it all.

re: "Avatar" Movie discussion
Hyperion, you're comparing this movie to sequels whose predecessors were huge successes and who were aiming mostly at a very young demographic. While this movie is going to make some coin, the assurance of this movie's box office success isn't truly deserving. Especially considering the lukewarm reaction to everything thus far. The fact that they're now releasing uber kid-friendly TV spots isn't a great thing. It's a sign of desperation. I don't see this movie coming anywhere close to $1B. You're acting like Xmas releases produce like Summer blockbusters. Well, they don't.

For some reason you think people want to see something new. They don't they want the se story told with different characters with the same happy ending. Shakespeare wrote stories that everyone knew and was celebrated for it.

re: "Avatar" Movie discussion
I watched HBO's first look for this movie, 1.78:1. It was more impressive than the trailer on FOX or Apple. And it will have more warts than a Pixar movie or The Dark Knight (live effects), but I admire their gall. And I think I will go see it now in IMAX.
If it's, say, 10% worse than T2, that's still good.

re: "Avatar" Movie discussion
I saw the first few trailers and was left confused and not overly eager to see this film. I just checked out the latest one and thought it finally made sense, the movie looks pretty good now.
I'll also be going to an iMax 'cos we just opened up a new one and I've never experienced iMax neither.
