Re: Let Joss Whedon direct The Avengers

I didn't really like it.

Corny humor + predictable ending = lame. Sorry, but I've seen the recipe a million times before. Only thing missing was the damsel in distress.

Trying to mix an action movie with childish humor just doesn't work for me. The Dark Knight was really the only comic/superhero movie I have enjoyed.

I would then argue that "superhero movie" isn't really your thing.

I must have cringed 10+ times watching that movie - tried way too hard with the jokes. The Hulk was sick and Scarlett Johansson was hot, those were the only two high points of the movie.

Batman and the Avengers are two totally different types of movies. Batman tries to stay as close to the real world as possible; Avengers doesn't give a **** about that.

I thought this movie was a ton of fun. Thought the jokes worked, thought the action was entertaining.

The Hulk totally stole the show. Even as Bruce Banner I thought he was a really interesting character.

Ruffalo was a big question mark when I found out he'd be replacing Norton. He did an excellent job!

Ruffalo is a solid actor. I never doubted he could handle it.

Re: Let Joss Whedon direct The Avengers

Ruffalo is indeed a solid actor, he's just very limited in his roles because he isn't very charismatic (for an actor, at least). And he's amazingly stiff in RomComs like when he was in Just Like Heaven (yeah, the movie had bigger problems because it just sucked in general, but he was stiff as a romantic lead).

I don't dislike him, though. He fits a certain niche well, I just thing his range is limited.

Re: Let Joss Whedon direct The Avengers

I agree with his limited range. He was great in The Kids Are All Right, but it was perfectly in his comfort zone.

I expect sequel to every single one of these franchises on the horizon.

I agree completely, especially about the awful jokes. I'll go further than you though and say that I absolutely hated it. Can't wait for the Dark Knight Rises to get the awful taste of this movie out of my mouth.

Are you referring to the Marvel movies with just members of the Avengers in it? Cause I only saw the first Iron Man and didn't care much for it (but I didn't hate it). If you we're talking about all Marvel movies, I really enjoyed all three Spidermans (even the third).
