Would be awesome if they could pull it off, but I don't see it.
I'll give Marvel Studios the benefit of the doubt, sonsidering it's obvious they have, regarding the avengers franchise, things pretty well thought out so far...

Big Second Weekend

Quote:
Disney says Avengers will cross $1.002B worldwide Sunday. Yowza! That makes Avengers #11 on the all-time money making list, past The Dark Knight (not adjusted for premium ticket prices or inflation). And it should shoot up to #5 very quickly. It will be the first Marvel film and fifth Disney release to reach $1B.

Re: Let Joss Whedon direct The Avengers

Stan is trying to act brand new. He needs to go somewhere.

Also the movie was good and fun, but I will try not to think too hard about it because it was pretty flimsy in a lot of places. I liked it and I'll leave it there because I'll start to sound like a hater.

Re: Let Joss Whedon direct The Avengers

Did everyone see this Stan Lee article? For anyone interested in this stuff, it outlines the basics of the controversy surrounding Stan over the years and the criticism he's received from all over the industry. Very good read.

I can't wait for the next one - or Iron Man 3 for that matter.

Iron Man and Hulk need to become a duo. Stole the show by a country mile.

Absolutely - the Stark/Banner parts alone would be worth the price of admission

Re: Let Joss Whedon direct The Avengers

That's the beauty about these Marvel movies. Each subsequent sequel (Iron Man 3, Thor 2, Captain America 2 etc) can be used to further the plot of the next Avengers. They also allow the characters to be better fleshed out because of the continuity.

Except that the Hulk kind of exists on the fringe of that continuity.

Re: Let Joss Whedon direct The Avengers

True, but in large part because he already exists in the popular (i.e. non-comic centered) community, from his TV show to the two standalone movies featuring him. I think the comedic elements that the Avengers put in for Banner and the Hulk might help shift people's perception of the character to the point where a half-decent movie could be made about him, and bring him in from the fringe - although the Hulk is never going to be as complex as some other characters unless they start playing with the different Hulk personae (Gray Hulk in Vegas, Banner-brain Green Hulk from the Pantheon etc.)

Re: Let Joss Whedon direct The Avengers

Honestly I think the Avengers movies are gonna take away from the individual movies because people are just gonna be waiting for the main ones.

There's not much more you can really do in Iron Man if they aren't going to dust off Mandarin. Also I seem to be alone here but Iron Man is crossing the divide and becoming way too much Robert Downey Jr. as himself and less RDJ as Iron Man. That was pretty evident watching the film and it broke away from the movie when he was on the screen. It was like "Oh here are the Avengers and RDJ."

Re: Let Joss Whedon direct The Avengers

I respectfully disagree. RDJ is the perfect embodiment of Tony Stark. Perhaps he plays him close to his real personality, but it works. I never look up at the screen and see anyone other than Snark throwing out those quips and snide remarks.
