Let Joss Whedon direct The Avengers

Quote:
Let Joss Whedon direct The Avengers
Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Joss Whedon knows his comic books and has a sense of humour – just what the director of The Avengers will need

It's the news every fanboy has been wanting to hear: Joss Whedon, creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly, is reportedly on the shortlist to direct the forthcoming Avengers movie, the Marvel studio venture which aims to unite the publisher's best-known characters in a colourful clash of superhero might. Reports on iesb.net say that Whedon is vying with the likes of The Incredible Hulk director Louis Leterrier and other candidates for the chance to bring the highly anticipated ensemble superhero flick to the big screen.

I watch everything Whedon has a hand in... multiple times.

Re: Let Joss Whedon direct The Avengers

from EW

Quote:
Friends, Romans, Countrygeeks, lend me your ears! Deadline brings us news that Joss Whedon is thisclose to directing the upcoming Avengers adaptation, the mega-sequel-spinoff that will bring together Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and more Marvel superheroes. PopWatchers, I’m dying. I’m on the floor, choking on happiness, while my brain is simultaneously imploding and exploding with disbelief and rapture.

Marvel is not commenting on this news, but if there’s even a ring of truth here, that’s cause for rejoicing across the globe. I had, frankly, been a bit worried about the Avengers movie. Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man is a more-than-proven quantity, but we’re still a year away from seeing Chris Evans as Captain America and Chris Hemsworth as Thor. And balancing so many big personalities in the same movie, while also making time for beloved B-players (Hi, Hawkeye!), would take a very particular kind of a director: A fizzy-dialogue-writing, massive-cast-juggling, funny-sad-thrilling-terrifying-singing-dancing filmmaker genius.

Enter Joss Whedon, who excels at all that and more. PopWatchers, are you as excited as I am by the news that the Buffy/Firefly/Dollhouse/Dr. Horrible maestro might be taking hold of Marvel’s superteam? Aren’t the casting possibilities just endless? I see Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz playing married superheroes Wasp and Aunt Man, and Anthony Stewart Head playing Avengers butler Jarvis, and Nathan Fillion playing Hawkeye…

Yea I'm still thinking this is going to suck *** but Joss Whedon gives it a little bit of hope. I loved Firely/Serenity although thats really the only stuff that I watched and enjoyed from his work. After a quick IMDB I'm going to add Toy Story to the mix, didn't realize he wrote the screenplay for that. Buffy, Angel, and Dollhouse can all be quickly forgotten for me though.

I agree with you on Dollhouse, but Buffy and Angel are right there with Firefly in my pantheon of favorite shows.

Now the chances of The Avengers NOT being a crash-and-burn has increased with this move, but the film being great still remains a longshot.

Bump, with news that Edward Norton won't be playing the Hulk. Money being the issue.

Quote:
Marvel has decided to drop Norton and replace him with an unspecified unknown for the Avengers movie -- a lineup the studio is said to be planning to reveal at this month's San Diego Comic-Con.

^ According to Marvel:

Quote:
"Our decision is definitely not one based on monetary factors, but instead rooted in the need for an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members. "
What a load of bull****.

That shouldn't be so surprising. Remember the clashes Marvel had with Norton over the cut of the Incredible Hulk film?

Adrien Brody to play Hank Pym?

Quote:
- Rumors are going around saying that Adrien Brody
is going to play Hank Pym, better known as Ant-Man in both The Avengers as well as a solo Ant-Man film. John Campea of AMC's Script to Screen posted the following n his Twitter…

Take this for what its worth, but I was just told Adrien Brody is most likely going to be "Ant Man" for Edgar Wright.

- El Mayimbe of Latino Review posted the following on his Twitter...

I personally checked w/my pals at Paradigm (Adrien Brody's agency) & at press time, YES they were pursing Ant Man but got nothing yet.

- The folks over at The Playlist say that, "we checked with sources very close to the project this morning and it's evidently untrue. Maybe the rumors that Nathon Fillion playing "Ant-Man" (also untrue) will finally die now?" So there is stands for now.
I was hoping Nathan Fillion would finally get a big break as Hank Pym but im ok with Adrien Brody
