Breaking Bad
Who watches this show?
I've only seen the first episode of this season, but to catch up I went back and got the first two seasons on Netflix. While I'm a USA homer I have to say that this show has skyrocketed into one of my favorite shows currently on TV. What I love the most is Walter and Jesse make mistakes and they have to face the consequences. Nothing is swept under the rug. Also that makes things increasingly uncomfortable because the series is shot in a way that makes you feel like you're right in there with him. That Walter White is a chemistry teacher who is dying from cancer is a slick trick to explain why he would do what he's doing. What that also does is gives viewers something to invest in him. So you're watching this guy go down the rabbit hole and be corrupted to do things he wouldn't normally do and you're wanting him to succeed.

Re: Breaking Bad
so far this has been one of the most well executed shows in the history of television IMHO.

Re: Breaking Bad
I'm finally catching up to this season now, but that scene with Walt and Jane was cold. Going in I already knew what was going to happen, but seeing him do that was just so evil. The fact he overrode his first instinct made that one of the most cringe worthy scenes I've ever watched on TV.

Re: Breaking Bad
agreed, 100%. right now that scene sort of defines the series for me, it's going to be interesting to see how it develops from here, the third season hasn't really had a major shift yet, it's all been sort of setting the table type of stuff.

Re: Breaking Bad
This show kicks ***.
PDB, I think you nailed it when you said it's one of the most well executed TV shows ever. There's ramifications for every mistake. That scene with Walter and Jesse in the RV with Hank coming after them? I'm here feeling anxious for them hoping they get out and looking at Hank as the bad guy. When anywhere else Hank is the good guy trying to make up for something he's obsessed with that has ruined his life. On another show he'd be the tragic hero but here he's the villain. This is just masterful stuff. I just find it hard to believe there's only three people on this board who watch this show? C'mon.

At first I thought this was a dark comedy, to compliment Mad Men and it's Bryan Cranston. But it's just darker (although the pizza made me laugh hysterically). Vince Gilligan wrote out all these episodes before the show started, so they're really just chapters and don't have filler. I first watched the pilot, and it was very good. It left a lot of open questions but it also told so much of a story that I didn't watch more for a while. Then season 2 was available on demand and I watched as much as I could in a week and caught some S1, and now I watch S3.

Re: Breaking Bad
Gustavo is cold blooded.
I think this was the first time in a long time that a character on a show has scared the hell out of me. The twins wanted to kill Walter because they weren't allowed to kill the DEA. Gustavo tells them that he runs things above the border and they have permission to attack Hank Schrader. When he says that he knows that Hank is Walt's brother in law (he even put money in the donation pot for Walt's cancer). Then when all the DEA agents are gathered around waiting to hear word about Hank's status, Gus comes through and treats everyone to chicken to show his good will. The coldest scene of all was when he came in the room with Walt and his family and was talking to them. It was basically a show to Walt (who was slowly putting things together) that if he ****s up he can touch his family, and no one would suspect him and no one would believe he had anything to do with it. To top it off the Mexican drug cartel head that Gus dealt with was killed at the end of the episode so Gus got rid of his connect and he has a hand in what's going on in both sides of the border. Meanwhile Marie (and I'm sure others) are connecting Jesse to the shooting of Hank. And if they are tying Jesse to it that means they think it has something to do with Heisenberg. So Walt is in a tight situation and there's nothing he can do to make this end well. This was an episode that not much action happened but what has happened is scary as hell. This is the first time in the series where I start to hope Walt has a relapse and cancer gets him first.

Re: Breaking Bad
Queue'd this one up on Netflix on the strength on all the praise you guys are throwing out there. If it's even remotely in the same league as Mad Men I'll be really pleased. AMC has been kicking some ass. I wonder how the Walking Dead will turn out.

Re: Breaking Bad
I think once this season is over I'll catch up on Mad Men. I've had season one for a while (got it as a gift) but never found the time to watch.

Re: Breaking Bad
IMO, its better than Mad Men, this is probably the best drama since The Wire, some of the episodes are a little slow but still an amazing show...

Re: Breaking Bad
Even when nothing huge happens it's a really good episode.
Walt has himself in a terrible situation. I feel for dude, but yeah.. it's his fault. Also if he hasn't realized it already, he should start getting the hint that the further he goes down this rabbit hole and his only way out will be death. Gus is the most dangerous guy he could've gotten involved with and to think he fought so hard to be connected. Now you got Jesse ****ing things up and wanting more money and it's just going to get ugly. Also Bob Odenkirk has to win an award for his acting on this show. Playing such a sleazy character comes so easily to him, and I watch every episode having to tell myself that it's Bob Odenkirk playing the role and I always lose myself in the character. It's incredible.

Re: Breaking Bad
Favorite show on TV. I've been a fan since the first episode of the series.
As for the last episode, I think Jesse is genius for targeting the AA group for his product. And it's obvious Hank is paralyzed. Gustavo = biggest bad ass on tv? Eat **** Jack Bauer. My predictions for the rest of the season: -They fail too meet the quota, and Gus takes protection away from Walt and his family. I'm sure we'll be introduced to someone else thats part of the cartel, or Gus has someone he affiliates with down there. -Jesse gains great power. -Hank gets more leads on Jesse, but Saul will find a way to cover up the tracks.

Re: Breaking Bad
Also, what I LOVE about this show is that all the bad guys that they've established, are all different, and more sinister then the previous.
SPOILERS FOR THOSE WHO AREN'T UP TO DATE, OR WANT TO START WATCHING Tuco: A meth'd up, insane, knife wielding SOB. He did his business in the less-reputable places, always had two/three body guards with him (then the 10+ people outside the building he worked out of.) He used fear to his advantage. He was nuts (till he got killed.) Tuco's cousins: We were told about them in season 2, then we see them in season 3. Cold blooded assassins for hire on a war path. Men of few words (they probably said all of five? That's a stretch.) Nice suits, and ment business. It was only them, but when it was time to go to work, they had that ever-so-shiny axe. Gustavo: Nothing like the other two. Very personable, friendly guy. Well spoken, put together, he just has that nice-guy factor people are drawn too. He isn't dope'd up, he isn't dressed nice-nice...hell, the guy is a manager at a KFC-knock off. But he's brutal. He's a mastermind. Genius. He sees everything from multiple angles. He gave Hank the warning (my guess), shows up, and provides lunch for the entire APD? He's a nice guy. The fact he had the cartel boss killed, in his own house, by the freakin' FEDS!!?! Gustavo is THAT dude. Love him.
