This is really old news but really exciting none the less.

I would rather watch Hellboy, but still would love to see what effects he brings to the Hobbit

Really? I thought that Peter Jackson would've been directing the movies, turns out he is a producer instead.

Well...it's old news that Guillermo was going to direct, you're right. But it's only very recently that it's been made official.

Still, yeah, it's something that's been expected for a while.

Anyways, I read somewhere else that Del Toro is literally living in Peter Jackson's basement in New Zealand for a few months and the two are collaborating on their vision for the Hobbit and whatnot.

Gotta say, it makes me enthusiastic about the project.

If it's anywhere near the LOTR movies it should be amazing.

The Hobbit

Quote:
WELLINGTON, New Zealand — Hollywood director Guillermo del Toro said Monday that production delays have forced him to quit the planned film version of J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit," a two-part prequel to New Zealand filmmaker Peter Jackson's blockbuster trilogy "Lord of the Rings."
Damn. Still hoping this movie gets the green light, but its not looking good right now

The Hobbit

Quote:
Yesterday we heard that Guillermo del Toro had stepped down as director of The Hobbit due to the continued delays in production, and because he has commitments to other movies which can’t wait until after 2013.

A natural replacement for him would be Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson who has been producing and co-writing The Hobbit alongside del Toro from the very beginning.

Jackson’s manager, Ken Kamins, released a statement yesterday saying “Peter has obligations and commitments to other films that would make it impossible for him to direct The Hobbit at this time”, however in an interview today Jackson said that he would “explore” directing The Hobbit if studios involved with his other movies let him.

re: The Hobbit

That'd be awesome. I did enjoy Pan's Labyrinth but the LOTR movies are Peter Jackson's forte.

re: The Hobbit

Probably half the people in the Western world have read the Hobbit...and you've got millions of people who take it extremely seriously. You're talking about a film that is guaranteed to make hundreds of millions of dollars even if you don't do a great job of executing the material. That isn't a big deal?

re: The Hobbit

these movies have been ungreenlit rumors for too long. Both Halo and Hobbit have been "in the works" for about 6 years now. They missed out completely on Halo and probably would make less than half of what they would have if they made it 3-5 years ago. The same goes for the Hobbit. Had they struck while LOTR was still the No2 movie of all time, they probably would have made one and a half to two billion off of it net. Now, they'd be luck to gross $1billion for both parts of Hobbit.

re: The Hobbit

Quote:
He’s talking to Warner Bros., MGM and New Line right now, and Deadline says that he’s been busy extracting himself from other obligations. What does that do to Tintin? Deadline also says that Jackson directing has been a primary factor in getting MGM to schedule The Hobbit to shoot at the end of this year. I.e., without Jackson would the films not happen at all? Is that why he might direct now when he’d previously proclaimed total disinterest in the job? That’s probably a moot question at this point, though hopefully he’s not essentially being strong-armed into making these movies. Wouldn’t bode well for the films

re: The Hobbit

I read The Hobbit (& LOTR) when I was like 8. One of my favorite novels as a grade-schooler, so the film better be good. Peter Jackson directing would guarantee that.
