You have to wonder how much of their audience will return for season two. The build-up to the premiere had buzz that now is kinda non-existent.

Without adding fuel to the flame war here I think we all should be supremely aware by now that popularity is not an accurate measure of or even necessarily an indication of qaulity in all things art. Viewership, ratings, etc. is essentailly a moot point.

This show is good. It should have been great. It underachieved. It's an A student in Community College who should have been halfway through Med School already.

While it may not be mediocer it failed in delivering on it's much due hype despite having nearly every advantage availible before by the time it was finished.

I've already written at length in this very thread what went wrong with this program, but the "it's just a zombie show what do you expect" mentality that pretty much sums it up best.

Whats baffling is that the comic is completely linear. It doesn't jump around and unlike most long running comic series there is only 1 monthly trade. With the source material being so uniquely self contained it was basically pre-storyboarded there just asking to be made as is. Yet for whatever reasons, like R Star said, they just started steering away from the plotpoints that allowed the original to be so succesful in the firstplace.

Why mess with such a good thing? I can totally accept minor changes and even major ones should that not undermine the qaulity of the program. With any adaptation certain things are going to need to be sacrificed. The thing is,the writers were given an ideal format here. One where those previously mentioned sacrifices could all but be avoided.

With an hour long, weekly series the focus should have been on improving the source's weaknesses while still telling what was an already engaging story. They missed the mark completely.There was no need to rush yet they went the A.D.D. route anyways.

Where they had to chance to beef up the dialogue and give existing characters more depth they chose instead to just add MORE characters. The would be tension and the resulting payoff are much cheaper having done so. Color me dissapointed, personally.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I’m willing to bet that you haven’t read the series or otherwise you’d most likely agree with me. I’m not in the critical minority there. And again, this is not a fan boy crying that the Joker fell in red waste as opposed to green waste. It’s me crying foul at the misguided direction that they took something that was very clearly and easily supposed to be taken elsewhere.

Am I wrong?

Where to begin? We liked The Walking Dead last year during its brief, six-episode run, though we had some issues as well (Merle Dixon, we're looking at you). But we were excited to see where Frank Darabont would go given a full, 13-episodes season. Of course now Darabont – after working on the first half of Season 2 -- has left the series (apparently fired) and we're not sure what to expect, quality-wise. As for the story, we do know that a familiar farm from the comic books is being introduced, and with it characters like Hershel (Scott Wilson), Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Otis (Pruitt Taylor Vince).

Chalk another one up in the HB doesn't know what the **** hes talking about column.

ACtually just seeing this, but I'll respond even though you claim you are gone from this site. At the point of you suggesting Darabont was fired, no one knew that and AMC was saying he had voluntarily left, so stop with the 'know it all' attitude, there was nothing out there that was saying he was fired. The Network and Darabont himself put it out to the world that he left on his own.

Now this is an interesting article I came upon, as you can read, it seems the crew was upset about his firing and they said he was very well liked. Actually article says they also tried messing with the mad men and Breaking bad formulas. If anything its the network that has issues.
