Garfield, 26, a relative unknown, was born in the USA but grew up in England. He had a major role in Heath Ledger's final film, 2009's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.

Interesting choice. Now everyone else cast will have to be, more or less, unknowns. At least I would think. They can't have a major star stealing the spotlight from the lead.

He was pretty decent in the Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. I think this is a solid choice for the next Peter Parker.

It might not since it'll be Parker in college, not HS like originally thought.

Spidey has a great rogues gallery that could be utilized. I'd rather see the Lizard especially if it's Spidey in college.

Lizard is indeed the most sensible choice as the villain. I also think they should go with Gwen Stacy as the love interest.

As far as the origin story goes, I think it's a lose-lose situation for this reboot.

For one, they can't just skip it. How and why Peter Parker starts off as a hero is pretty damn essential to the character of Spider-Man. At the same time, it would be impossible to do the origin story without there being a feeling of redundancy. IMO it's just too soon to try and re-do what Raimi adapted so well in Spidey 1.

Well, I imagine we'd see Venom eventually (he's too popular for them not to. $$$$). But he's also got his own movie they're working on - unless it's shelved. Antihero storyline most likely with Carnage. Maybe it'll have a tie in down the road with this reboot or something.

How about Kingpin? It would be nice to have some of the mid-90s beginnings with a big budget. And they wouldn't be reliant on Osbornes or symbiotes.

But then they would have to deal with the question of how they're going to make Kingpin strong enough to fight a guy with superhuman strength, agility etc. Plus he was in Daredevil already. He might get some of the mainstream audience confused and whatnot.

They should go with a villain with some sort of special power. Vulture is a possibility. He's the first one that Spider-Man ever faced (2nd if you count Chameleon).

Daredevil is forgotten. Would Kingpin have to have a fight scene? And besides, it took Willem Dafoe about 15 minutes to get superhuman strength. Parker got bit by a spider. A dude become sand. Any 300 lb bruiser with some muscle serum can hang in a fight scene (katalyst?).
