Re: Game of Thrones
I'd say its a bit nieve to assume that the show will undoubtedly reach any certain number of seasons. People tend to overestimate the popularity of shows based on their own feelings about them. Shows, especially expensive ones, can be derailed for any number of reasons despite recieveing all the critical praise in the world."Creative differences," writer's strikes, studio in-fighting. All of those can be program breaking and none of it is uncommon.
When all is said and done it's veiwership that dictates the lengths that a showrunner will go to keep something going. The show is new and buzzing, but what if there are major delays and the public loses interest? With a show of this magnitude to start I can only imagine how much bigger its going to need to go to do the story justice. Think of how intimidating that amplifying budget is going to look to HBO execs if there aren't the neilson ratings to justify them. It's not something I want to happen, but just because the show is great does not make it a foregone conclusion that it will reach any type of satisfying ending. History isn't on it's side. |

There's just so many things working against a show getting to a seventh/eight/ninth/tenth season. Each season presents new challenges. Look at how many popular shows (both critically and ratings-wise) haven't made it to a seventh season. You might have to deal with any number of things, and I'm not even talking about cancellation from HBO. Increasing demands from actors, writers, producers (monetary or otherwise). Production costs (Deadwood, Rome) become a problem. I mean, you look at how many problems arise on the set of a movie, now multiply that by ten, because you're talking about an hour long television drama with expensive set pieces and high production values and you're trying to make that go seven, eight, nine, ten years. It's just unrealistic. Again, if it makes it past a seventh season, I'd be surprised. A seventh season already is a lot, anything past that is a hell of a lot.

Re: Game of Thrones
NOTE TO R-STAR: Do not read. This post may contain spoilers.
One nice thing about HBO, though, is that when a show receives truly strong critical acclaim and has at least a decently strong viewership (not even a superb viewership) - they'll keep it on the air and let it play out its run.

Re: Game of Thrones
Bran's story arc is getting the high hard one this season which is probably fine since it's one of the less dynamic arcs in the series (although I expect it may be one of the most vital)

Again, no one ****ing cares that you've read all the books. Doesn't make you special. I've read them as well. Difference is I don't get a boner and try to come in and do some foreshadowing. You want to talk about the books, make a thread and talk about the books.
