Re: Game of Thrones
Holy mother****ing ****.
As much as I hated (loved) the end of this last episode (not in terms of quality, of course, I just didn't want it to happen) this show has officially entered another stratosphere of awesome. I did not, in a million years, expect that. Holy ****ing ****. It's no longer debatable. Treme, Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, True Blood. All solid shows (well, I don't really care for True Blood) but Game of Thrones is HBO's new flagship show, at least in my eyes. (We all know that True Blood is probably HBO's current flagship show, but meh). This is my type of ****. Got damn. Also... SPOILERS Remember how episode one of this season started? With Ned beheading a runaway in front of his son, and then telling his little boy, "You know why I had to be the one to wield the sword, don't you? The man who carries the sentence must always wield the sword." Nice little irony there. The season starts with Stark proving his honor, even during execution. And his final moments end in a very dishonorable execution himself. Great overall theme there. Ned was probably the show's most honorable character, and he's one of the first to fall. This is not a world where honor will be rewarded. I expect this to trigger some darker moments in each of the Starks. Incredible. I mean, they just killed off their main character in season one. I know a few people like to claim that this show doesn't have a main character, but make no mistake, Ned Stark was the main character. That doesn't change that it is a show filled with crucial and important characters, but Ned Stark was the central character. Even if it was symbolically, he was the dude. He was the McNulty of Game of Thrones. On another note, I've been hearing that a lot of people don't like Stark's wife, which I don't get. I think she's one of my favorite characters, and hope she has an even more centralized role than what she already has. She seems much better at politicking and backdealing than Ned was ever able to be. She does the political game much better than Ned. I hope she survives a few seasons of the show.

Re: Game of Thrones
*SPOILERS*
I can see Tyrian Lanister joining up with the Starks. It seems he has sincere hatred for his family, and they're actually trying to make him into an honest (brutally honest) and pitiable character. The whole black magic **** is crazy too. Something ****ed up is going to happen with that.

So with that being said, I think Tyrian would go against the Starks if it seems his brother Jamie is being threatened, which at this point, he is.

Re: Game of Thrones
Yeah I think Tyrian has too much love for his bag of **** brother to turn against his father. Regretable because he's one of my favorite characters.
But as a Lannister...he'll need to die in the inevitable culling of that clan from the face of the planet. |

Re: Game of Thrones
Just don't get too attached to any characters on this show. Anyone can get merked, at anytime.

Re: Game of Thrones
No one better ****ing start dropping future spoilers because they read the books.
On a side note, I'm listening to the audio book for the first book. Great so far. Probably 8 or so hours in.

Re: Game of Thrones
Yeah, there should be rule that this thread is about the TV show only. You can only talk about what has happened on the latest episodes. I swear to god if someone pulls a "Snape kills Dumbledore" on here I will go medieval on their ass.

I don't want anyone talking about ANYTHING that hasn't already been shown on TV. As far as the book goes, the show keeps ridiculously close from what I've seen so far. Very impressed.

Re: Game of Thrones
Easily the best drama on TV. Can't wait for the finale next week. I've been loving the show so much that I've started to read the books. Though i somewhat wish I didn't because they are really good (the show is very faithful to them). I prefer the delivery of the show, but the detail of the books is incredibly entertaining. I'm sure I won't have the patience to wait another season though and I'll spoil the fun of the show some by knowing what's going to happen with each successive book/season. I prefer a few characters in the book to their show counterparts (Renly and Catelyn Stark, along with many minor characters like Ser Rodrik--the old dude who went to King's Landing with Lady Stark), but I also like the way the show handles some of the characters more than the books as well (The Hound, Joffrey, Tyrion Lannister, Daenerys, etc).
Anyone else agree with me Joffrey and Arya are easily two the best child actors on tv? Personally them and Manny from Modern Family are the best ones since Season 4 of the Wire. Speaking of the Wire, Tommy Carcetti kicks ass as Littlefinger. |
