Re: Game of Thrones
Joffrey? He looks mentally handicapped in the show. I thought he was supposed to because of the incest until I listened to the audio book and they had him as a good looking tall kid.

Spoilers Oh I definitely agree. Bran was probably the point of reference for the show for the first 10 minutes of the first episode, but after that it has always been Eddard Stark. All characters have ties you can trace to him (though the Dothraki -> Daenerys -> Jorah Mormont is a bit of a stretch). I somewhat saw this coming around Robert's death and I was hoping it wouldn't happen because there is no character for the audience to rely on anymore for the main plot points (the "Game of Thrones" i.e. all the political and military dealings in the Seven Kingdoms). It looks like it'll now be purely an ensemble cast which is how I think the books are as well, something the show did slightly different, but the change was much appreciated for someone new to the series like myself. Eddard was a great character to slowly introduce the TV audience to the world of A Song of Ice and Fire. I'm guessing the North/Wall part of the story will continue to revolve around Jon Snow and Daenerys will be the main person from the east of Westeros storyline, but now we're lacking a reliable character for the Seven Kingdoms. Tyrion or one of the Starks would be the most likely to fill Ned Stark's void (Robb, Arya, Lady Stark, or maybe even Bran). |

Re: Game of Thrones
He's such a hateable prick, and the kid who plays him in the show does that so well. I guess what I prefer from him in the show is how his dialogue is slightly more fleshed out (at least compared to where I am in the book), but most importantly the show doesn't use that annoying pet name/nickname "Joff".

Re: Game of Thrones
Start a thread in the books forum is you want to talk about the book. I hate accidentally reading things about the book that spoil the show.

Re: Game of Thrones
I hate those people that spoil plot for myself or others too. Don't worry, it's not going to happen (at least not from me, nor R-Star I presume). I was just making some observations about the book relative to the show. I'm only at the part where Bran wakes up in the book.

Re: Game of Thrones
I've been avoiding this thread because someone might post book spoilers, but I had to comment on that ending.
That was the most unexpected conclusion to a TV show episode I've ever seen. Even the the evil queen knew that was some eff'd up **** by her son. It feels weird conjecturing about what's gonna happen since I suppose the 'future' is already written out in the books, but I sincerely hope that one of the Starks ends up killing Joffrey. Preferably Arya or Sansa since they were there to witness their father's murder, essentially by Joffrey's hand. Anyway, I'd love to get into the books but I doubt that reading that scene would hold as much emotional weight now that I've seen it. I really wish I'd known about the books this year.
