Charlie Sheen Q&A about Anger Management

Charlie Sheen Talks About ‘Anger Management’ and Anger Management

Quote:
Q) Do you have any money on the Kentucky Derby?

A) I don’t bet anymore. I’m a retired gambler. Not a recovering gambler. Big difference. I’ll still look at the lines. I’ll be like, yeah, that’s a blowout, that’s a 40-point blowout. Easy, right? I’ll watch the game. It’s 40-point blowout the other way, and I can just walk away. I don’t have some dude calling, like, “Hey, yeah, so tomorrow, huh?”

Q) Before you gave it up, what was the biggest bet you placed?

A) Million dollars. Pacquiao. It was a wrong-way spread and I had a dream a week before that he was going to beat De La Hoya like a drum, and he did. Second round, the punch score was like 300 to 2. And it was like, pfffft, whatever. I felt nothing. And I went, O.K., there’s nothing left for me here. Unless my children are involved in the wager, no sense in making it, you know?
He bets based on his dreams.

Q) How did the plans for your “Anger Management” series start to come together?

A) Mark Burg, my manager, said a couple years ago, “Let’s look at this Tyler Perry model if this Warner Brothers thing doesn’t pan out. It’s an intensive amount of work for a very short time and then you’re done.” And then Lionsgate approached and said, “How do you feel about ‘Anger Management’?” I said, “Well, I spent a year in it.”

Q) How did that go?

A) I could have been done in one session. “Got it, O.K., thank you, sign here, great. Here’s 50 grand.” They say count to 10 – it takes a little bit of time, it slows you down a little bit. I say count your teeth with your tongue. Most people have 28 teeth, minus the four wisdoms. I got 26. Nobody told me there’d be math. [laughs] But I got that little nugget before I landed in therapy. The guy was really good and gave me some good advice. And I don’t follow it. I’m a rageful weirdo. No, I’m joking.

Q) So once the concept for “Anger Management” was in place, how did it become a series?

A) It started to get momentum and everything just started falling into place. It’s one thing, a year later, to have been in a very public manner, fired from – or traded – from the most valuable sitcom in the universe and sent off to the cornfield like some crazy person. And then to have a show put together, not only this fast, but a show that’s this good, it just doesn’t happen. That wasn’t meant to be my legacy. This is. There’s no way that I can hang my hat on that and say, “Yeah, most of it went great. Went a little weird at the end but, hey, we’re all friends.” We’re not friends.

Re: Charlie Sheen Q&A about Anger Management

Charlie Sheen's Anger Management will be syndicated to Fox stations.

Quote:
"Typical wisdom says off-cable shows aren't right for general syndication, but that's way too narrow minded for today's reality. When a program produces these ratings, regardless of the platform, you have to take it seriously. We did, and we expect Anger Management to be a key piece of our sitcom dominance for years to come," said Fox TV Stations SVP Frank Cicha in a statement.
