Re: Favorite movie trilogy?
I would certainly put Heat on that list of the best films of the last 50 years (it's by far Mann's best work). Carlito's Way barely cracks Pacino's top 50 list. While I love Scarface, it's most certainly in the fashion of a guilty pleasure (like most everything that De Palma made). Which basically proves my point that you were probably serious when you referred to the Mighty Ducks trilogy.

Re: Favorite movie trilogy?
Any Al Pacino's best list without Scent of a Woman is immediately dismissed by RWE.

When you're chin high in a rapidly flooding ditch the first thing you need to do is stop digging. We get it, you have terrible taste. You don't need to hammer home the point.

Re: Favorite movie trilogy?
Scent of a Woman would certainly be on a list of Pacino's personal best, but I probably wouldn't include it on list of the best films of the last 50 years. Carlito's Way only makes Pacino's top 50 because I'm fairly certain that he's only made 45 or so movies. It's about as generic a gangster film as you'll ever encounter. It's doubly disappointing for it's star having made so many great gangster films (even if they're guilty pleasure a la Scarface).

Your analysis of Scarface is also the typical review from its release, but in time people have at least abandoned that stupid thought that it was a "guilty pleasure" or a "movie and not a film" and today people accept it for what it is, one of the best movies of the past 50 years. I also doubt you've even seen Carlito's Way. You probably just read a dated review and let that tell you what to think as is obviously the case with Scarface. Your underrating of Scarface in this thread is worse than anything I've said about Godfather.

Re: Favorite movie trilogy?
It is a guilty pleasure. I've enjoyed it since seeing it in the theatre. And I had it on VHS back in the day, and now on DVD and ripped from there for the iPod/iPad since I still enjoy watching it from time to time. But I'm not mistaking it for a great film. De Palma wasn't a maker of great films, just enjoyable ones (Carrie, Dressed to Kill, Scarface, The Untouchables, etc.). Bonfire of the Vanities would probably be his best, but I'm not a huge fan of Tom Wolfe so even the film adaptation left me dry.

Re: Favorite movie trilogy?
It perplexes me that anyone would put the Spiderman trilogy in this thread. The first one was pretty good, the second one sucked and the third one was beyond awful. The newest Spiderman was better than any of the Tobey incarnations.

Re: Favorite movie trilogy?
I didn't like the Godfather series. I don't like monster movies in general though. I thought sopranos was a terrible show.

Re: Favorite movie trilogy?
Mobster. My phone auto typed it and I was too lazy to check it.
Monstars probably would have made it a better/more enjoyable film.
