Looks like that Angry Birds movie is actually gonna happen.

Angry Birds developer Rovio announced this week, on the third anniversary of the original game's release, that they've hired Despicable Me producer John Cohen to produce the Angry Birds movie with the goal of a summer 2016 release date. The movie will, of course, be a CG 3D animated feature, and also includes former Marvel Studios chairman David Maisel as an executive producer.

Taking its cues from Marvel, Rovio will finance the film itself and retain creative control over the project without the interference of a Hollywood studio.

"John's an exceptionally talented producer, and we're delighted to have him join the flock," said Mikael Hed, CEO of Rovio Entertainment. "With John's hands-on producer background and David's expertise in establishing and running his own successful studio, these two are the dream team for making a movie outside the studio system. Both professionals have the ideal skills and vision to achieve incredible things."

Sounds like a pretty awful idea.

Unless its a kids movie it doesn't make much sense.

If it is a kids movie, I see their end game as the movie driving sales for everything Angry Birds.

Kind of like the Transformers TV show and movie did for their toys back in the day.

My wife and mom have both put hundreds of hours into the game.

Its insane. There's nothing left to unlock for either of them, but they still play.

I bought my parents an iPad and my mom just uses it for a Plants Vs Zombie machine, and my dad uses it to track down guys try to scam people on Kijiji (Canadian Craigs list?).

I have to admit that I do the same thing. Endless mode is addictive. Those double corn cob launchers are a thing of beauty.

I play endless mode as well. I dominate the shit out of the game until those bungee guys come in. I hate them.

The big hulking beasts with the little sidekick guys that they throw are the biggest threat.

I do a row of flowers on the back end as soon as I can, start putting up double shot plants in the rows the first zombies show up in. Once the first two rows of flowers and double shots are complete its on to upgrading to double head flowers and quad shot plants, and putting up a rock in each row near the end. Once done the third row begins to get filled with double shots then upgraded. Sometimes throw in the fire tiki thing right behind the rock.

This destroys everything until the bungee guy comes. And then its all over for me.
