So this movie is currently up for Best Animated Short at the Academy Awards.

Sweet film. I make it an annual habit to try and catch all the Oscar nominated animated shorts and regular shorts. For starters, it gives me a bit more of a rooting interest in these categories that are considered the more throwaway categories during the night, and secondly because watching all the shorts (both animated and not) is a good way to check out some potential feature filmmaking talent that can get you excited for their vision. For example, check out the trailer for this nominated short film and tell me you wouldn't be excited to see this guy make a feature length film with this sort of vision:



As for the animated category...unfortunately I've only seen Paperman and this short, Fresh Guacamole. Not much of a story (understatement) but I love the visuals.



Anyway, I've already searched for the other nominated shorts and none of them are available to view online outside of those two, but you can peep the trailers if you're that interested. They look really good. Adam and Dog has gorgeous animation. Head over Heels has neat animation, too, but also seems to be a really interesting concept. And the Maggie Simpson one we're all familiar with the animation and humor, of course.

Most of the shorts do eventually find their way online for free viewing, usually after the Oscars.

He was nominated last year and actually won, but he pulled a Brando and had somebody appear on his behalf in the name of some cause.
