Any SDSU fans here that have some knowledge on this kid? He's starting today for the Dolphins at WR against the Jags. He looked good when I went to training camp on Tuesday. But he looked great last year too and did nothing in the regular season. I think the knock on him is that he's not very strong. He can't handle press coverage. Some one fill me in on Tolver
He combined with Kasim Osgood to form one of the best WR duos (for one year) ever in the NCAA. Personally, I think Osgood is the better of the two. But I think Tolver has the potential to be a starting receiver. He is definitely a possesion receiver with not much speed, but his hands are like Stick-Um. He IS strong (but not strong enough to handle tough corners like Antoine Winfield), but not too quick.
The only time he ever drops balls is when he takes his eye off the ball and thinks about running for the end-zone before even catching it, which he had a tendency to do at SDSU.

It's Kendall Newson jeesh.....
And right now JR Tolver > Kendall Newson because Newson ruptured his Achilles tendon.
Tolver didn't look that good tonight either, he had 2 false start penalties called him and dropped a couple good throws from Fiedler. He did however make the best out of his receptions.
Keep an eye out for Snoop Minnis he can easily be our 2nd or 3rd WR if he can beat out Thompson

Thanks for the info . I also think Osgood is better. I think Tolver got picked first in the draft. I remember getting pissed cuz Osgood was still there.

Did Bobby Sippio play? If so, how did he look?
I didnt see the game, but I saw him in practice. He didnt even get much time in the scrimmage. I thought I would see him get a lot of passes because Chambers wasnt practicing and Boston is injured. But I dont even think he got one pass thrown to him.
I was also surprised when Tolver got drafted but Osgood went undrafted. Another strength Tolver has is the ability to get open...in college, he'd have multiple guys on him and he'd still be able to use his size/strength/hands to bring in catches. He's a good player. Good route runner.
I'm not sure if he's got starting potential, but he'll be a good #3 receiver for sure for somebody. We'll see how he does in preseason.

Man that's dissapointing, I was hoping he'd get a chance. Looks like the string of AFL players making the NFL at receiver right after an AFL season is over...
