Re: Junior Seau found Dead

I think they need to try to reverse the big hit culture but it might be too late for that.

One of Junior Seau’s last acts before shooting himself in the chest on Wednesday was to tell his children that he loved them.

His ex-wife, Gina Seau, told U-T San Diego that on Tuesday he texted her and each of their three children separate messages: “I love you.”

Junior Seau's family will allow researchers to study his brain for signs he was suffering from damage done by concussions sustained during his 20-year NFL career, Chargers team chaplain Shawn Mitchell has told the Los Angeles Times.
I think the concussion storm pro football is facing may be ready for a serious upkick

Don't be surprised to see "premature" retirements in the near future

I remember the ESPN segment where Jerome Bettis was watching Earl Campbell barely be able to move and was like it legit scared him....he got his ring and got the **** right after

You're probably right.. makes you wonder what guys like Peyton Manning, Ray Lewis and Charles Woodson really have left to play for.. they are already hall of famers with rings, their playing still is nothing but a health risk at this point

Re: Junior Seau found Dead

The ones that are in real danger are the ones who really get hit on almost every play, Linemen foremost then Linebackers and running backs. I don't think I've really heard of many WR's and QB's getting real brain damage, but of course a lot of receivers are on the wrong end of these kill shot hits. It really wouldn't take a lot of those to do long term damage.

Re: Junior Seau found Dead

I went to college in San Diego from 97-01 and grew up in LA. San Diego is no small town and Junior is arguably the most loved athlete ever to step foot there (Tony Gwynn being the only other candidate). He was an ambassador for the town he was born in, played in and lived post retirement.

He was the king of the city and he did this? Makes no sense.

Didn't Chris Henry have whatever the concussion syndrome is called?

Junior Seau: Song of sorrow
Quote:
Within two years of retiring, three out of four NFL players will be one or more of the following: alcohol or drug addicted; divorced; or financially distressed/bankrupt. Junior Seau was all three.
Long but good read

I am guessing that this comes as no surprise to most of us

Quote:
Junior Seau, one of the NFL's best and fiercest players for two decades, suffered from a degenerative brain disease often associated with repeated blows to the head when he committed suicide last May, the National Institutes of Health said in a study released Thursday.
The NIH, based in Bethesda, Md., said Seau's brain revealed abnormalities consistent with chronic traumatic encephalopathy or CTE. It said that the study included unidentified brains, one of which was Seau's, and that the findings on Seau were similar to autopsies of people "with exposure to repetitive head injuries."
Seau's family requested the analysis of his brain.

Expected.

People really need to quit ignoring concussions.

Its an injury to the brain. There isn't anything more serious than that.
