Statement from NFL on bounty suspension ruling:

"Consistent with the panel's decision, Commissioner Goodell will, as directed, make an expedited determination of the discipline imposed for violating the league's pay-for-performance/bounty rule. Until that determination is made, the four players are reinstated and eligible to play starting this weekend."

The appeals panel divided the case into two pieces — the financial part, which, if the bounty scheme existed, would violate the salary cap and would be ruled upon by an arbitrator.

But it also handed to Goodell the intent-to-injure portion, saying he would have jurisdiction over that because it would be detrimental to the league.

In court, Vilma and other Saints players acknowledged a "pay-for-performance" fund existed to pay bonuses for different types of big plays and the occasional "cart-off" of an injured player, but argued that there was never an "intent" to injure.

That makes a lot more sense to me now. I'd bet that he just issues a new suspension some time between week 1 and week 2, and it's not going to be more lenient. I think if I were a ruthless dictator I'd suspend their asses for 15 games this season and two next year. Give them the extra one because I could and they dared to question my edicts.

So their source is someone with an agenda who declaration contradicts parts of Gregg Williams’ declaration.

Someone explain this to me. I haven't really cared about this whole issue enough to read up into it, but:

If the players are allowed to return to action while this is doing whatever it's doing, why aren't the coaches allowed to return as well?
