This is great by me. I never thought that we would trade him because you just aren't going to get comparable value.

2 big contracts on the RB spot? This is stupid. You don't spend that much while your defense sucks.
When Newton's time comes, he'll be getting 100 mil easy.

Yep. They overpaid both RB's and their QB is still their best runner, but it's not my money so hey. They should at least get above .500 this year if the D is any good.

They need a linebacker or two to replace the guys who will be on IR by week 5.

Dumb. They could have cut both of those dudes, given Goodson the minimum, and been in the same boat as they are now.

Dude was gonna get paid by somebody and we couldn't just let him walk. He was on the field more then DeAngelo anyways. DeAngelo's deal was front loaded to free up room for this contract, so the cap hit for both won't be that bad.

Panther fans are loving the move. Non-Panther fans are laughing at it.
You don't spend that much on RBs in a passing league. It's like they're trying to reincarnate the Dunn, Vick, Duckett. You follow current trends, not trends of 6 years ago.

How much do you guys know about the cap situation in Carolina and how much of this deal was guaranteed? Those would seem to be relevant factors.

20 mil + guaranteed for each rb. They'll undoubtedly restructure Williams' contract within the next 2-3 years, but they deserve criticism for the way they're building the defense.

Re: Panthers, RB Jonathan Stewart agree to 5-yr/$36.5M extension
I hated the deal for Williams but like I said it was front loaded and is on the decline at this point. Our GM obviously knew he would have to pay Stewart and set up the contract to offset each other. I'm not ecstatic that were paying this much for our backfield but you don't let Stewart walk because the Williams deal was a mistake. You already said it anyways, the pay cut for both will be there once Cam gets his
and yes our D was terrible last year but take a player on Beasons level from any team in the league and you'll see a huge drop off. Didn't help we lost 2 other linebackers on top of that. There will be improvement this year |

The team philosophy is to build around RBs and LBs. It hasn't worked for them for the past 5 years, and it won't in the next 5. If they succeed it's because they were lucky enough to have Newton. But they probably won't since they're neglecting their defense. How are you gonna pride your offense on the ground game, yet your defense is the weakest against the ground game? Do you walk away from practice proud of your rushing? Come on.

Yeah, this makes no sense especially with the offense now being built around Cam Newton.
