Re: Sources: Jags' RB Jones-Drew open to trade
The Jets? Greene isn't a great back, but he's fine. The Jets have a lot more holes than a RB can plug.
Of course MJD is open to a trade. He wants more money and more years, he'll take it wherever he can get it. |

Re: Sources: Jags' RB Jones-Drew open to trade
I doubt MJD get's moved, I really really do. But the more I think about it, the more logic I see in it. His value is at a peak level in terms of ability on the field, and he's at a spot where whoever trades for him will be willing to lock him up so he's happy and committed long term. Jaguars don't need to be good this next year, so trade him for picks and a nice player or two and really make the rebuild worthwhile.

Well, and the fact that sitting out the full year doesn't make any sense for MJD. He has 2 years left on his deal. He doesn't become a FA next summer.

The problem is that you aren't going to get much of real value in return. Running backs don't get paid because there's too many behemoths trying to hurt them. By the same logic no other team is going to give up a lot for a RB out of fear that some woolly mammoth will trample him into early retirement three games later.

How do their deals compare to WR's? Didn't Pierre Garcon (can't spell his pass dropping name probably) get as much guaranteed money as Lynch did?
I would personally rate Lynch as a somewhat better football player personally. Yet his paycheck is the same as freaking mediocre third option at WR.

Re: Sources: Jags' RB Jones-Drew open to trade
Garcon got 20.5M but it's the Washington Redskins. They never met a FA they didn't overpay and bid against themselves.
Quite a few are frontloaded that I saw and 5-6 yrs, except Forte 4 yrs, Peterson's is 7. I was wrong about Jackson but sounds like his is coming up. Peterson 100M/36M guaranteed Johnson $53.35M/30M guaranteed Foster $43.5M/20.5M guaranteed McCoy $45M/20.7M guaranteed Rice $40M/24M guaranteed Lynch $31M/17M guaranteed Williams $43M/21M guaranteed Stewart $36.5/23M guaranteed Forte $32M/18M+ guaranteed Last edited by Dissonance; 08-22-2012 at 02:56 PM. |

Re: Sources: Jags' RB Jones-Drew open to trade
I'm fairly certain this wasn't serious, but Tebow was just on the market for a 4th rounder (if I'm remembering correctly) and the Jags didn't jump at it.

Re: Sources: Jags' RB Jones-Drew open to trade
Tebow actually chose the Jets over Jags. Will probably be a huge boon for the Jaguars as soon as this year.
Also MJD is being a bitch here. Dude is getting solid money these next two seasons and he wants a new deal? It'd be different if he was getting $750k. I can't clap to this. The deal he signed is comparable to some of the ones given out this offseason.
