Source: Rams' Amendola out about 6 weeks

Quote:
St. Louis Rams wide receiver Danny Amendola is expected to miss about six weeks with an injury to his collarbone, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Amendola, injured in Thursday's game against the Arizona Cardinals, suffered what the team believes is a sternoclavicular joint separation. While the injury is expected to sideline Amendola six weeks, he could return earlier.

Rams coach Jeff Fisher had little to say about the injury Friday, calling it a "competitive issue." However, Fisher said he'd have an injury report on Wednesday regarding Amendola while also saying he was certain the receiver would miss the Oct. 14 game at Miami.

Amendola injured his shoulder on a diving attempt at a catch in the second quarter of Thursday night's 17-3 win.

A TV camera caught Amendola flinging his helmet into a wall with his left hand while walking in a tunnel to get X-rays. He had the arm in a sling after the game, but the Rams did not make him available to reporters.

FOX's Jay Glazer reports Danny Amendola's dislocated clavicle was initially life-threatening, and that the Rams do not have a firm timetable for his return.
Yes, life-threatening. Amendola's clavicle popped in instead of out, coming dangerously close to his aorta and trachea. Amendola had to be sedated by the Rams doctors so they could pop his clavicle back in and assure it would not "dislodge" again. Per Glazer, the Rams don't have a concrete timeline for Amendola's return because it is an extremely uncommon, perhaps unprecedented, NFL injury. It still appears Amendola will play football again in 2012, however.
Could've been a completely different week in the NFL if someone had died from an onfield injury
