No doubt about it, Jacksonville, Kansas City, Oakland, New York Jets, Arizona, maybe even Dallas and San Francisco would give Rivers a call. Probably some others too.

Inferior teammates definitely influence your thought process and have you pressing where you wouldn't otherwise. Look at damn near any QB and if they had an INT spike it could be attributed in part to the skill positions not being what they were in the past and a QB making bad decisions trying to force things when they think they can.

You know Oakland is willing to toss a couple firsts at a QB, unless you can get that type of deal, then keep him. Starting over w/ a new QB is a risky proposition and potentially damaging for a franchise.

He's getting worse every week. Throws at the WR's feet, ignoring defenders over the middle...Philip Rivers is damaging for this franchise. SD should be in the hunt for a rookie QB.

Why the hell would San Francisco call Rivers? Alex Smith right now is a better QB then Rivers. Why would San Fran want Rivers to come in and throw 3 INT a game

He is not the root of the problem. The organization is in shambles in general. Today, the offensive line consists of two tackles who shouldn't be starting in the NFL and both starting guards had to be replaced during the game. Every team needs to help the quarterback as much as they can or the results are going to be what they are. You can't expect the same production if the talent around the quarterback has been getting worse for years.

Oh please... let them switch teams and the Niners would be considered prohibitive favorites to win the Super Bowl while the Chargers would be 1-9 or 2-8. Quarterbacks don't play one on one, their production depends on about 500 different factors.

Yeah the line is getting pushed back and giving up hits, but Rivers is still making poor decisions. His accuracy is horrible too.

There was the INT where he throws a basic slant against Denver, and gets picked off by the LB sitting on the route. Even a rookie wouldn't throw that. Against the Bucs, he tried to throw a pass (think it was an out route) through like 3 levels of defense.

He's gone from a top 10 QB to perhaps a bottom 10 QB. He's looking like Matt Cassel out there, with more zip and the same accuracy.

Yep, Smith is better. A smart QB with mediocre talent, playing within his ability >>>>> an aging gunslinger who seems to play with more willpower than intelligence.

Some of those windows Rivers throws to, the windows are closed and the shutters are drawn. He lacks consistency.

Maybe it's just a matter of practice and coaching? I take back the SD drafting a QB idea. If they start working on that o-line, Rivers would be an excellent choice for another year. At least, they'll be more competitive with him than most rookie QBs.

Look, he isn't playing well, there is no arguing that - but he isn't a bottom 10 quarterback by any means, that is laughable. When you are changing protections and your offensive line doesn't react to it, there isn't much you can do. Rivers has shown over the years that he will get the job done when he has time in the pocket. If the talent level on the team decreases, you can't expect the same results.

This happens to everybody, it is magnified with the Chargers because they have had a tendency to make stupid mistakes at inopportune times. The production and efficiency of the quarterback is always a direct result of the entire team, other players on offense as well as the defense and special teams. It's a barometer of the entire team, not a single player.

A couple of years ago you were making fun of Smith. Amazing how a coaching and philosophy change can cause the quarterback to play and thus look much better. The talent in San Francisco is pretty good, but Smith isn't a vastly different player. He just happens to be put in favorable situations, the coaching staff understands his limitations and plans accordingly.
