The NFL needs to take psych evaluations as seriously as they do drug tests. Football has a higher rate of suicide compared to other sports.

If I saw a kid I had coached shoot himself in the head after I tried to talk him down, I don't think I'd want to play a game the next day.

IMO people in the US take it as a norm, but to other countries football is absolutely ridiculous. It just looks like some really big dudes smashing into each other over and over again.

Every play is a recipe for brain damage. Making players pay for hard hits is not an effective tactic to increase safety. They'll just pay the fines. The league needs to prioritize the mental health of their players.

Following up w/ quote/link.

Quote:
On the same day the Kansas City Fire Department released the 911 tapes from the murder-suicide of Chiefs player Jovan Belcher and his girlfriend Kasandra Perkins, the NFL announced some positive news. Zoey, the 3-month-old daughter of Perkins and Belcher, will be supported by the league through college.

According to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, she is the beneficiary of the collective bargaining agreement signed last year. Zoey's guardian or her estate will receive $108,000 a year. When she is 5, she will receive $48,000, then $52,000 a year until she is 18 or 23, depending on if she goes to college.

The thing is they aren't normal people anymore. They don't make normal or rational decisions. Something is seriously wrong.

I mean Benoit killed his family with his finishing move if reports are correct. How ****ed up is that?

Concussions, especially multiple concussions alter your brain.

Good work by the NFLPA negotiating the clause that takes care of the daughter in this situation.

For a second I considered listening to the 911 calls... then I decided I didn't want to feel shitty for the rest of the day.

It's a personal bias on my part rather than a neutral understanding.

Yeah I'm wondering how that works. Is it a life insurance policy that takes care of dependents in the event of death?
