Re: Happy New Year! You're FIRED.

I think the Bills firing is the stupidest...I saw that team struggle against an early bad Browns team (was at that game), and that team was never going to go better than 6-10.

Browns fans were calling for his head after the 0-5 start but after he won 3 of the next 4 the new owner was jammed up to keep him until years' end.

That is what happens when you go 3-5 down the back end.

3-5 isn't that bad in the NFL. They won 10 games, they did what they had to do. The NFL is screwy sometimes with what record makes the playoff, but a 10 win season is an accomplishment no matter how it happens.

Anyway, Packers fans are pretty stoked that Lovie got fired. That should tell you all you need to know. The Bears hosted the NFC Championship Game 2 years ago and since Lovie's first year when he took over that tire fire from Wannstedt, they have only been under .500 twice, both times 7-9, and only once in the last 5 years. In the league of parity, that is good.

Lovie deserved to keep his job.

Re: Happy New Year! You're FIRED.

The overall record is good, but missing the playoffs five out six years just isn't no matter how you want to look at it. The Bears defense has been playing at a high level for the better part of the last decade, their special teams have been historically productive in all areas, the problem is that their offense has never performed at the level it needed to. Even now with Cutler, Marshall and Forte they were below average. If you have been the head coach for nine years and your offense hasn't performed even at merely an above average level in any single season, there is something fundamentally wrong.

You can argue that he has never had a very good or great quarterback and always had the team competitive nonetheless (which is difficult to do and the reason why I think he is a good coach), but again, at the end of the day as the head coach you are responsible for making strides in the areas you are lacking and they haven't done that to a satisfying degree. You don't a need a Hall of Fame quarterback to get more production from your offense.

Re: Happy New Year! You're FIRED.

These are Jerry Angelo's problems, not Lovie Smith's. He can only do so much with Rex Grossman and I don't even know who the RB was before Forte, especially when he's not an offensive coach.

Re: Happy New Year! You're FIRED.

Chan Gailey should've never been a HC in NFL to begin with. And regardless of expectations this yr, you want to be better and they won't be without an upgrade at coach and personnel.

Chicago needed a change. Didn't even realize they missed the playoffs that much - 5 out of 6. That's certainly enough and the offense. Angelo should be fired too. They've ignored OL far too long and need a system change as well for their skill players to shine better or be put in a better position to score more.

Head coaches have a say in all those personnel decisions. The front office doesn't hire random players and then tells the head coach to go coach 'em up. To me, this is a package deal.

Angelo was already replaced a year ago by Phil Emery.
