Reports: Pats' Dennard guilty of assaulting cop

Pats may need to find 2 starting CBs or Talib became more of a priority.

Quote:
BOSTON -- New England Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard was found guilty Wednesday on charges of assaulting an officer and resisting arrest for an incident that took place near a Lincoln, Neb., bar in April 2012, the Lincoln Journal Star and Omaha World-Herald have reported.

In addition, Dennard was found not guilty in a Lancaster County Court on charges of assaulting a Lincoln man.

Sentencing for the case will be April 11. Dennard's felony conviction for assaulting an officer carries a maximum sentence of five years in jail and up to a $10,000 fine, according to the World-Herald.

The misdemeanor resisting arrest carries a maximum sentence of one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Prosecutors said after the verdict was read that they were not recommending a sentence, the World-Herald reported, adding that the typical sentence for a crime like assaulting an officer ranges from probation -- with no jail time -- to 180 days behind bars.

The trial for Dennard was delayed twice, eventually beginning Feb. 11. The delayed trial allowed Dennard to play his entire rookie season, during which he became a starter and played in 10 regular-season games.

Dennard was arrested April 21 outside a bar in Lincoln, accused of punching a police officer in the face during a fight. The fight occurred five days before the 2012 NFL draft. The Patriots took Dennard, who was the 2011 Big Ten defensive back of the year, in the seventh round.

Talib was already priority one. Maybe two after Revis.

I heard they were wary about giving him anything big and he may look elsewhere.

Re: Reports: Pats' Dennard guilty of assaulting cop

I think that was dependent on their being able to land Revis. They always have their price and if someone offers more they won't hesitate to let Talib go. Unless, of course, Dennard gets more than token jail time.
